Dispatches: The Truth About Long Covid Monday 15th March, 8pm

It was surprisingly good actually! I am SO relieved. The two tweets above are actually NOT representative of the whole documentary.

Dispatches: The Truth About Long Covid Monday 15th March, 8pm

Hi. There's a programme tonight about Long Covid. Here are a couple of trailers: 1. 2. Here is the synopsis: https://www.bradfordhospitals.nhs.uk/2021/03/15/channel-4s-dispatches-to-profile-bradford-long-covid-clinic-the-first-in-yorkshire/ I know a colleague of the film-maker. I intend...

Antivirals as ME/CFS or Long Covid treatments (e.g. valacyclovir, valgancyclovir, amantadine)

Thanks for this Jonathan. This is the sort of feedback that I need to hear. Valaciclovir can be fairly easily bought online (even in the UK). I therefore assumed it was not particularly dangerous/potent ... not quite at the level of taking paracetamol (at the correct dose) but thereabouts. If...

Antivirals as ME/CFS or Long Covid treatments (e.g. valacyclovir, valgancyclovir, amantadine)

Gosh ... I know I'm treading on thin ice here ... (believe me I know!) ... BUT ... would there be any harm from taking 3 months worth of valaciclovir (which is normally given for genital herpes) and seeing what happens? What are your thoughts?

Mail Online: Why many of those struck by Long Covid may be suffering from glandular fever: Blood tests on some patients are coming back positive for ‘

How do they know? Are GP's actually testing for this? Can someone ask one's GP for this? Is this part of the the set of tests that they are supposed to do which 'come back normal?' or do they not do this as part of their routine.

Mail Online: Why many of those struck by Long Covid may be suffering from glandular fever: Blood tests on some patients are coming back positive for ‘

Very interesting article in the Mail Online. ‘Why many of those struck by Long Covid may be suffering from glandular fever: Blood tests on some patients are coming back positive for ‘reactivated’ Epstein-Barr - and it could lead to a range of effective treatments Most would test positive for...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

I've just tried to reply to a converstaion on Paul Garner's twitter feed. I've discovered that he has put limits on who is able to respond to posts. So it's probable that his twitter feed is about to become very one-sided. (I was blocked by Trisha Greenlaugh some time ago, like many others...

COVID-19: UK volunteers to be deliberately exposed to COVID in world-first trial

Unbelievable and totally unethical, surely? A study has been given the green light to find volunteers who will be intentionally exposed to coronavirus in a bid to speed up the manufacture of new vaccines. The study will start in the UK ... no surprise there, then. They are choosing only young...

BPS attempts at psychologizing Long Covid

Ha ha. Well said (as usual)! Here's an opinion piece he wrote in the BMJ open a few years ago entitled, "'Four problems' - a typical day for a GP" ... at least I think it's the same guy. I think you can learn a lot about him from this piece. I'm glad he's not my GP ... not that I actually see...

Does anyone else experience a pulsating up the back of the neck as a sign of deterioration or having done to much?

Yes. Absolutely! I tend to have a lot of muscle pain with my ME anyway. However, when I get that characteristic burning sensation and pain in the back of my neck, then I know I'm really in trouble. When I get this I now know (after years of experience) that I need to drop EVERYTHING and go to...

Validation of the Severity of ME/CFS by Other Measures than History: Activity Bracelet, CPET, SF-36. van Campen et al, 2020

True. I consistently do a reasonable number of steps per day (3000-5000), but my pattern is 'potter, potter, rest ... potter, potter, rest'. The actual associated stride length for each step is very small and I avoid getting out of breath. So when I went on a (short) walk with a friend recently...

Validation of the Severity of ME/CFS by Other Measures than History: Activity Bracelet, CPET, SF-36. van Campen et al, 2020

... Oh I'm so very embarrassed!! This from a woman who (reportedly) has a physics degree! It's the Standard Deviation of course ... what a numpty!

Validation of the Severity of ME/CFS by Other Measures than History: Activity Bracelet, CPET, SF-36. van Campen et al, 2020

This is fascinating. But could someone please explain this for me? "The mean (SD) number of steps per day was 8235 (1004) for mild, 5195 (1231) for moderate and 2031 (824) for severe disease." Are folk who are 'mildly affected' averaging 8235 steps per day? Is that right? (That seems awfully...

Request for help with possible TV documentary on ME

Thanks for the response. I think it makes good sense. And I KNEW there was someone who was involved with the PACE Trial who was also on the panel for the NICE guidelines, but the name had escaped me! So thanks.
