I've noticed that Alex puts a lot of effort into 'treating' people with a public profile. Any normal person who signs up to the OH clinic program won't get to see Alex. He actually popped into the room when I was there to get something and couldn't have been less interested in us. But anyone he...
Very sad. I think it's wrong that clinics are taking people's money for treatments at this point. They may not be intending to make money out of people's desperation but that doesn't make it ok. We've seen this scenario so many times. Proper research is the only way!
You're right, and thinking about it, it's probably fair. I think I'm just really out of touch. I went from being a teacher (not brilliant pay considering the hours and responsibilities) to having ME and just scraping by. I've sort of forgotten how much many people earn!
 Patricia Worby is really keen to make the point that 'everyone has trauma' but the whole point of the ACEs criteria is that NOT EVERYONE has had ACEs.
I think they've been saying that they've been 'working with the NHS' and 'setting up GP pilot schemes' for many years but nothing more substantial has emerged. When I read more about it a few years ago, my impression was that they've got a few random GPs who have expressed an interest but it's...
I'm not sure that their descriptions of severe/very severe are accurate. I'm also surprised that a group of physios would use the term 'wheelchair bound' to describe a wheelchair user. They only mention wheelchairs in the severe/very severe descriptions but I found a wheelchair useful when I was...
A really high number of women who've experienced intimate partner violence have some kind of traumatic brain injury. For many this goes undiagnosed. I wonder if they screened for this in the study.
I agree with @rvallee. The line, 'consider preventative approaches in mitigating the risk of...
I don't know if this has already been posted but looking back I can't see it. I just came across it and on the bbc news website. It's a video interview with a young professional footballer who has long covid. Very sad. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-london-59039726
I know that pwME do get shortness of breath and heart palpitations but I wouldn't say these apply to everyone or that they are our main symptoms. I don't really get either particularly badly. This makes me wonder if those affected by clotting are a particular subgroup of pwLC (hopefully a large...
I totally agree. I think it's really important that people learning to live with ME have access to counselling/therapy if they want it. However, as you say, it can be really damaging if the therapist has pre-conceptions about ME and unfortunately many do. I'd really like all therapists to have...
Discussion of the new guideline taking place on LBC right now. Can listen here: https://www.globalplayer.com/live/lbc/uk/
(Sorry if this is elsewhere, didn't know where to put it!)
That's cool! Abi Palmer's great! I think I discovered her via an article about Wellness in the guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/jun/22/wellness-is-a-seductive-lie-abi-palmer-sanatorium
I got her book for xmas last year and it's brilliant. It's also very accessible as it's...
I just watched the online book launch for the book Ill Feelings on youtube
It's a conversation between Alice Hattrick and Abi Palmer, who wrote the book Sanatorium (which I've read and really enjoyed). It's a good discussion and I think both authors come across really well. I'm putting Ill...
I don't know there's such a thing as 'mind-body theory' but I know what you mean. I also struggle to articulate an argument in response to these ideas, I think it's a struggle precisely because the ideas are so vague and generalised. I think it's a philosophical argument more than anything and...
