Article: Next pandemic likely to be caused by flu virus, scientists warn

Wasn't the last pandemic most likely to be caused by a flu virus - until it wasn't, and the assumption that it would be flu had led to entirely the wrong kit, approaches, etc. being used?

'Curable' mind-brain training app and ME/CFS, including the role of Fiona Symington

Oddly I have had no ME researchers emailing me, or mailing me, or sending me free pidgeon dinners, saying they were too scared to continue working in ME research. None. Zero. What world is she living in where researchers message her out of the blue to say such things.

    Consider e-bikes

New fad? E-bikes have been around at least 20 years. The price then was stupid and it is still stupid. E-bikes are only really for ground floor people anyway, as they tend to be heavy, and heavy, stairs, ME, and me, don't mix well.

Cognition and Memory after Covid-19 in a Large Community Sample, 2024, Hampshire et al.

I saw it, it was for me a combination of disappointing, frustrating, infuriating and of course very worrying. For medical professionals to equate my cognitive issues with the word 'slight' or a 3 point drop in IQ is ridiculous, and very concerning given that these are the very 'experts' whose...

    Rice cookers?

Blind luck is how I got it for £50 - it is 'faulty' in that it has a quite pronounced induction hum/buzz sometimes while it's heating - it's clearly been dropped or crushed diagonally - no cosmetic damage but the frame is bent and it's a PITA to get the water collection thing out of the back as...

Blood–brain barrier disruption and sustained systemic inflammation in individuals with long COVID-associated cognitive impairment, 2024, Greene et al

Erm...aren't blood vessels supposed to leak? So as to supply 'stuff' to bits that aren't actually inside the blood vessel surely the blood needs to get out of the blood vessel somehow, presumably this would constitute a 'leak'? Leaking is surely the primary, if not only, purpose of blood vessels?

    Who is Simon Wessely?

Isn't the true goal of science, as practiced, to make money, garner power, and crush all opposition before their feet?

    Rice cookers?

I've used microwave rice in the past, fir many years. When I wasn't up to pan cooking. Quality was I found very variable, even between 2 packets of the same rice purchased at the same time from the same place. But yes, I used it in exactly the same situation, when in PEM and unable to handle...

    Rice cookers?

I briefly had a yum Asia panda. It couldn't cook rice so it went back. To be more precise it cooked incredibly firm rice no matter how much water was added (produced very firm sticky rice), how many times the rice was washed, or how long it was soaked for prior to cooking. I've now had, and...

    The Chrysalis Effect

Possibly just me but isn't 48 business hours at least 8 days? Assuming that said business is open 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. 48/8 = 6 days, but if they are only open 5 days a week...... ..so plenty of time to make a sarnie before they reply, or to go on a cruise.

Protocol for a scoping review of how people with ME/CFS use the internet (2024) Shortland et al.

At least 99 percent of my food comes from the Internet, as I cannot just jog down the shops even to the 2 local corner shops are up effectively unclimbable hills. All of my bills are paid using the Internet, including my cable/Internet bill. Of course paying that wouldn't matter if I didn't...

All-Cause and Cause-Specific Mortality Among Individuals With Hypochondriasis, 2023, Mataix-Cols et al.

If people are dying at an increased rate from 'controls' then wouldn't that suggest that they may in fact have something wrong with them, in short that they are not imagining it, that it, whatever it is, is real?

    Earseeds, Acuseeds

Gotta love traditional high tech if it's from a far away place. Ain't yah :banghead: Do any of these people actually parse what they're saying writing? If so then how does all this tripe get through. Not just tripe but totally absurd guano level crazy tripe.

What can we learn from the Post Office scandal publicity (including TV)?

Surely that's the money that sub postmasters were forced to pay as the system said they were short. It is not the fictional money that the system said they were short itself.

In my experience doctors rarely say such things. Even to those who, in their opinion, merit it. I couldn't even get my GP to sign a form, for student loans, to say that I was unlikely to work again. The fact I'd been unable to work for over 20 years, at that point, was irrelevant in her eyes...

Scientists crack mystery of how MS gene spread

Confusing..... Was the migration a named migration itself called Yamnaya Or were the cattle called Yamnaya cattle Or were thr cattle herders called Yamnaya, in which case it should have been the Yamnaya Or were there hundreds of cattle herders all/all called Yamnaya? Which would have got...

What can we learn from the Post Office scandal publicity (including TV)?

I learnt that selling stamps and other postal services is obviously an imprisonable offense, and that doing it from premises with a big red sign on the outside just makes it easier for the authorities to find and arrest people.

It'll all be fine. All they need is a drug to turn people into mice, and one to turn them back to people, maybe even the same people. Then they can turn someone into a mouse, use the mouse model derived treatment to cure their ME, and then turn them back into a person. Simple really.
