    Bowel prep

I had bowel problems recently, lasting about 8 months, and asked the GP if I could have an colonoscopy under anaesthetic. The answer was no. I said that I would look into having it done privately, and was again told that I would not be offered an anaesthetic. Luckily I found the cause of my...

Well-known, famous people with Covid-19 and Long Covid

The trouble for me is that it is the muscles at the backs of my legs that are most affected, so the best option for me is to kneel on the stool that is near the cooker, for example, when cooking. I also often suffer brain fog when standing, so shopping would be much easier sitting down.

Closed UK: DecodeME updates, was recruitment thread.

I had two main problems with the questionnaire: There was no option to say that one had stopped taking a drug or supplement quickly because it had adverse effects (sometimes serious, resulting in hospital admission). There was no option to say that depression was no longer a problem. I...

    CAR-T therapy

A lot of non-human animal experiments, which tell us little or nothing about humans. I wonder if he's just seeking funding for further research? "Santamaria suggests that many past failures stem from a poor understanding of the underlying mechanisms. “I think they fail because they’re going to...

    Covid-19 vaccines and vaccinations

I can't read the whole paper, but perhaps someone who can could explain why missing four doses appears to reduce the risk a bit? (Although not as much as getting the full recommended dose)

What can we learn from the Post Office scandal publicity (including TV)?

I was sacked by Post Office International Telephones in 1978 due to my sick absence (a result of drug addiction which was in turn a result of trauma induced by a relationship break-up). This was despite having such a good record in the past that I was on a line-testing panel in Wales, and was...

Acupoint massage at Shenque (CV 8) for chronic fatigue syndrome: a randomized controlled trial 2023 Li et al

"No intervention was delivered in the control group." Rather poor, I think. They could at least have provided something similar.

Review Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Coenzyme Q10 Supplementation in Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome: An Overview, 2024, Mantle et al.

I tried Co-Q10 in or before 2014 and couldn't tolerate it. I said on Phoenix Rising: "I couldn't tolerate Co-Q10 even at 100 mg/day. My main adverse effects were dizziness, hunger and difficulty controlling bowels. Erica Verrillo's treatment guide says: Some patients report that CoQ10, while...

Why the Psychosomatic View on [ME/CFS] Is Inconsistent with Current Evidence and Harmful to Patients, 2023, Thoma et al

Unfortunately the number of people studying psychology has increased dramatically: "Psychology is one of the most popular subjects to study at degree level: over 24,000 students were accepted onto UK undergraduate courses alone in 2019, accounting for one in 20 students1." (I presume they are...

Post-Exercise Hypotension and Its Mechanisms Differ after Morning and Evening Exercise: A Randomized Crossover Study, 2015, Leandro de Brito

I often feel relatively well for an hour or two in the morning, then gradually worse until about 1500, when I improve again. I seem to feel grotty after meals. Some days, usually after a few restful days, I feel relatively well all day.

Medical assistance in dying when natural death is not reasonably foreseeable, 2023, Wiebe and Kelly

There was a programme last night on the same subject on BBC Radio 4: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001t9km Euthanasia is illegal in the UK. All attempts to change the law have failed. Other countries have legalised assisted dying and/or euthanasia. In this week’s Briefing Room with David...

Does anyone use/have a parcel box for deliveries?

I have a plastic waste bin with 'post' written on it (by myself - it has to be rewritten every so often!). It's like this one: I have placed rocks in the bottom for when it's very windy. Bigger parcels are left in my porch, which I didn't have for years until I could afford to have it rebuilt.
