I think there is immunotyping coming up in the larger studies which would be good
They are close together on the chromosome so it is likely that a factor regulating expression of genes in this region is doing something abnormal that is affecting both of them.

Cohort is too small to subdivide and get much meaningful out of it, I think. Certainly, stats aren't going to work. Important for future expansion, though, yes.
If I instead wrote "possible discriminator" I would sidestep the meme but this would not change anything about the work. As for other...
Very exciting. I should also clarify that a lot of the work happening is not just that driven by us or our study here. So many researchers are bringing their own new ideas into this space and designing incredibly innovative studies. People are genuinely interested in this and it’s a real breath...
I have noticed that the abstract is cooked (words mashed together several times) no idea whether this came from the journal or from changes of mine during proof stage (possibly while I was hanging by a thread between home visits) but I have written to them to rectify if possible.
I am a pretty...
I have seen lipid homeostasis issues in cells from multiple tissues from pwME (some of these are experiments with Chris) and I do want to specifically look at membranes in a future project
I remember Kathy presenting this at stony brook last year, talking with her afterwards and being very impressed, good to see it landing in an appropriately great journal. Congrats are in order for Kathy, Chris & team.
Thanks for sharing - all good now I think. Sarah is preparing two different projects for different grants at the moment and I believe that her PPI teams are now filled. :)
probably time since infection/onset being much shorter in LC than ME? (I havent seen their cohort data or if they include duration of illness tho)
These necessarily rise post infection and wane gradually even in “normal” cases. If more pronounced in LC could be a feature of more severe...
I agree that for interpreting function a deeper dive into specific genes needs to be done. Getting a GO hit for "cytoplasm" for example means absolutely nothing. It also doesn't deal with direction or effect. You could have a GO term for a metabolic pathway come up as significantly upregulated...
This is where my brain went as well but a google seems to suggest it is referring to a type of breathing exercise. Doesn't seem easy to find information about so I'm not motivated to spend more time looking.
Thank you to those who are ready to go for home visits. Look forward to meeting you all in a month or so. We are still a little short of targets in our ME cohort due to exclusions, so please get in touch if interested or please share to groups that may have people in VIC if you can.
Thank you...
"Human plasma samples were collected from 38 patients with ME/CFS, consisting of 27 females and 11 males, with an average age of 43 years (±13). These patients were recruited between 2013 and 2018 from two clinics: Stora Sköndal in Stockholm (SK), where the cohort included 19 patients (15...
Still recruiting due to individuals who satisfied exclusion criteria.
Timeline update: Due to some mass spec training this week, I will start booking people in next week, for home visits starting in November which is when our phlebotomist becomes available.
How does one resolve such ascertainment problems?
Are you saying that current case criteria are unreliable, or that the rigor of their application in cohort selection is lacking? (or are you saying both?)
If it is the former, how does one perform meaningful research? Would this not also...
If you install realstats addin for excel and use the formulae as in the paper, it will do everything for you automatically so you need not worry about the theory being over your head to execute it. In terms of concepts the embedded image is from the paper and is amazing at helping to understand...
you can test for normality and test for equality of variances and then triage each feature to different tests depending on whether parametric/nonparametric or variance equality, can give you more statistical power while still being rigorous
is covered for excel here in figures 6 & 7...
