Prognosis of ME/CFS – by David S. Bell, MD

Yes, adult onset for me. I don’t have dozens of doctors and tests telling me that nothing is wrong. They would ALL be fired if they were that incompetent. I am sure there are many good reasons that some PwME must tolerate ongoing invalidation from the medical profession. I only know from my own...

Environmental Exposures as a Potential Underlying Factor in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; a Case Report (2017) Arseneau et al.

I read the article and two things stood out to me. The first was the TBI... “2 years ago, headaches started after a traumatic brain injury” ..and the second was a history of chemical exposure. I am glad (n=1) found a way to improve.

Prognosis of ME/CFS – by David S. Bell, MD

For me, I see the downside of ME more of a temporary setback, while I forge a pathway back toward my baseline. There is nothing “normal” or “new normal” or “used to” about ME. It plainly sucks and I refuse to accept it as permanent condition. I have no idea what Dr. Bell is talking about, but...

Jennifer Brea interviewed on Dr Oz Show December 18, 2017

Maybe you could help me with the logistics? How can I best give credit to your post, because it made me stop and think, but respond in such a way as to relay my thoughts (but not to aimed them at you)? Okay, let me try again; hopefully this is better? I am a better verbal communicator, than...

Freud Was a Fraud: A Triumph of Pseudoscience

I think there is a lot to be gained by just talking to someone, especially if one is feeling depressed and anxious. I don’t see a need to run a full blown study on that. I was using the term CBT loosely, but since my posting I have read more about it, and realized another term would have better...

Freud Was a Fraud: A Triumph of Pseudoscience

Yes, I agree. From what I read, that is why ACT gained popularity because its based more on taking action, rather than pure CBT that tends to make one more self critical. But the research is weak, IMO, on both psychotherapy techniques and psych meds. I place psychotherapy more in the “buyer...

Jennifer Brea interviewed on Dr Oz Show December 18, 2017

I see Jen primarily as a spokesperson for ME awareness. I think the treatments Jen takes should not be up for public scrutiny; these are decisions that were made between her and her doctor. We don’t own Jen, or own the rights to how she answers questions during a television interview.

Jennifer Brea interviewed on Dr Oz Show December 18, 2017

Jen said “I have been really lucky”. She didn’t say that off-label antivirals were scientifically proven to cure everyone with ME. And from Unrest, we can see how she was once very ill. And now we can see her in different interviews on tv, looking much improved. She usually answers the...

Freud Was a Fraud: A Triumph of Pseudoscience

I agree, the evidence is weak. But if I was struggling with anxiety and depression, I would much prefer trying a form of CBT over taking a psych medicine. The cash cow is psych meds for Big Pharma.

Freud Was a Fraud: A Triumph of Pseudoscience

I still think the bigger story is that people believed a cocaine addict whose theories had a massive influence in psychology.

Freud Was a Fraud: A Triumph of Pseudoscience

I think it’s fair to assume that some types of CBT may be helpful for some people at certain periods in their lives. But I don’t feel there is enough body of evidence to support casting a wider net. I think many interventions can be used to help manage stress and depression. But I feel we...

Freud Was a Fraud: A Triumph of Pseudoscience

Yes! Hence the line (no pun intended), “It’s the Real Thing.” “Coca leaf extract had been used in Coca-Cola products since 1885, with cocaine being completely eliminated from the products in or around 1903.[5]” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca

Sigmund Freud’s Cocaine Problem http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2011/07/22/sigmund-freuds-cocaine-problem/ “Editor's note: Nearly 130 years ago, cocaine was the world’s newest wonder drug -touted as a cure for everything from morphine addiction to tuberculosis. And its biggest supporter was...

Jennifer Brea interviewed on Dr Oz Show December 18, 2017

Dr Oz: (seemed to be prerecorded) “90% of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome cases are undiagnosed. And too often this treatable condition can make you feel lost. But today more and more people living thru this are being heard, thanks to Jennifer’s brave story.” Later in the segment... Dr Oz: “Part of...

Public Who shall we nominate for the 2018 CNN Hero Award?

The winner will be thrust into the public spotlight, so this may translate into requests for interviews and TV appearances. They also get to spend $100K, which I assume would lead to accountability if CNN broadcast a followup segment.

Public Who shall we nominate for the 2018 CNN Hero Award?

http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cnn.heroes/2018/nominations/ Next years nominations are open. The visibility of gaining a top ten slot and also the final winner of the prestigious CNN Heroes Award would be a huge win for ME awareness. Who would you like to see in the public spotlight that could...

Advocate for Disabled Workers; CNN Hero of the Year

I agree that is a complex narrative to understand and convey to others. I will start a new thread for the 2018 CNN Hero of the Year nominations. That way we could collectively aim for getting a PwME, ME Caregiver, Doctor, or Researcher visible on the public radar. Edited to add link to poll...

Jennifer Brea interviewed on Dr Oz Show December 18, 2017

I could relate to this quote from the second Dr Oz clip...”not everyone goes from climbing mountains to being in a wheel chair”. That just about sums up the “before” and “after” image of the drastic life changing events many of us are forced to manage on a daily basis.
