United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

My alternative theory; they all hate him and have allowed him the platform to get this response to get rid of him. That would make more sense than the rest of what has happened.

United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

I’m laying here rather baffled. They/he cannot seriously have thought that was going to be good enough to put an end to it? Anyone reading the response would surely have seen it was just going to pour more fuel on the fire? They have clearly not taken any external crisis management advice...

United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

Woefully inadequate statement. Doesn't tackle the fact that he openly mocked those he knew he would be offending with his 'opinion' - and what was probably most incendiary in what he wrote - reaching for their keyboards or some such wording. He's the chair of the bl**dy charity, not some junior...

United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

I'm hoping this will be the crisis point where there is a reckoning and a total rethink - but, holding my breath I am not.

They surely can't ignore knocking-on 600 signatures. Can they..?

United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

Agreed, this feels like the smug 'we don't have an expensive CEO' line is coming home to roost. If I'm being honest, I do actually take a tiny bit of pleasure in seeing this situation. It's entirely self inflicted and the approach that some have commented on here and elsewhere about how...

United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

This is a PR cluster**** for the MEA and it’s entirely self-inflicted. Wonder how this will play out now, can/will they dig in, time will tell, but the longer they go without acknowledging the problem, the worse it gets.

United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

Did have a quick look earlier and there were a few comments on a recent FB post but nothing back. Suspect they all have their tin hats on, hunkered down, waiting for the grenades to stop.

Anyone looked at the MEA FB page today? I’m not sure I dare..it’ll rile me either way, I suspect.

United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

Close to 300 people have now signed the open letter. Hoping they can’t just brush that off as reviewed, nothing to see here..

United Kingdom: ME Association governance issues

I read the original Tweet and thought this could have only been an article from a decade ago, but then re-read the article and no, alluding to the social media mob (mob not being the actual word used, but it is, imho, what he meant and speaks volumes to how he [and I guess whoever reviewed the...

Paul Garner on Long Covid and ME/CFS - BMJ articles and other media.

Bit late to this thread, but, I think the BBC slot clearly showed that PG wasn't an expert, which is good. And Campbell and his producers will have been able to see that from the reaction of the callers, all of whom did a great job explaining why he was wrong. I hope he regrets going on there...

United Kingdom: News from #There for ME

I'm genuinely curious about the process that these letters are going through, in a positive way. Maybe @Karen Hargrave could enlighten. How much input do the signatories have to the letters that are being written? Particularly curious how much input the very well funded (in relative terms) UK...

United Kingdom: News from #There for ME

#ThereForME have posted a letter to Layla Moran MP (chair of the H&SC Select Committee) asking for an inquiry into treatment of ME and LC patients. https://www.thereforme.uk/p/thereforme-letter-to-the-health-and Sorry if this isn't the right post to share this on.

Painkiller effectiveness for people with ME/CFS

Suspect I'm a bit odd (that'll not be the first time) that I rarely take painkillers for symptoms. My reasoning being that I need symptoms to tell me when I've overdone things. Early on, for example, I'd take paracetamol for the 'faux cold' thing (headaches, sore throat etc.) but that would...

United Kingdom: Action for ME (AfME) news

I've seen a few mentions on Twitter about an update to the 250k patient number to 1.3m on the AfME website; https://www.actionforme.org.uk/get-information/what-is-me/how-many-people-have-me-in-the-uk/

Interesting absence of Dr Strain, being the AfME medical adviser and all that..at least I couldn’t see him on the list.

UK: Raise the DWP Christmas Bonus from £10 for the first time in 51 YEARS!!!*

Stuff like this will probably be on the hit list for the Chancellor to cut in the budget. Along with making PIP a means tested or taxable benefit.

United Kingdom: Action for ME (AfME) news

Copied post AfME AGM has been postponed. Email just received and seen on Twitter; -- We are reluctantly postponing our AGM – we will confirm a new date with you shortly. This is because we have had delays with producing the annual report and readiness for the AGM itself as result of key...

Open letter to Action for ME with concerns about their promotion of a problematic Care and Support Plan Template

I’d like to say I share your optimism - time will tell I guess. To be fair to AfME though, it was a pretty unequivocal response, so, they may be taking things a bit more seriously as a result of this.
