Snippets from White P et al. "Eight major errors in the review process and interpretation of the evidence in the NICE guideline [...]" [for ME/CFS]

Just to clarify - According to this page, the individual patient data meta-analysis review being done by Cochrane was withdrawn, I think around 2018. Did Cochrane reinstate that review? Or has another group initiated this review?

Independent advisory group for the full update of the Cochrane review on exercise therapy and ME/CFS (2020), led by Hilda Bastian

I had posted on Oct 2 that I anticipated the draft protocol would be released for review by the IAG and the public soon but did not have a specific timeframe for that. I'm asking but don't know anything further myself at this point.

Independent advisory group for the full update of the Cochrane review on exercise therapy and ME/CFS (2020), led by Hilda Bastian

I was asked if I could share any information on the progress of the Cochrane systematic review for exercise in ME/CFS. I don't speak for Cochrane and I don't have a specific details or a date to share. But I am anticipating the draft protocol will be released shortly for review by the IAG and...

Does childhood trauma impact daily psychobiological stress in somatic symptom disorder? An ambulatory assessment study, 2022, Fischer et al

It continues to stun me that somatic symptom disorder is still considered a valid clinical entity that could ever legitimately guide clinical care or produce useful research findings. The criteria for diagnosis are essentially: One or more physical symptoms causing distress or disrupting life...

Updates on status of ICD-11 and changes to other classification and terminology systems

@Dx Revision Watch A question has come up on ICD-11 I'm hoping you might know. Now that ICD-11 is officially released globally, does WHO have a defined schedule to release updates to it? And will changes to the version of ICD-11 in the maintenance platform be implemented in that platform...

Trial Report The most severely ill patients with ME/CFS in Denmark, 2024, la cour

There are functional disorders programs in the US as well - this one at Mass General and another at Stanford. They call if Functional Neurological Disorders but it has the same DNA as the other functional disorders material I've seen.

Updates on status of ICD-11 and changes to other classification and terminology systems

Suzy - I've heard back from Ms Ramirez that the Excludes1 on G93.3 will be "chronic fatigue, unspecified (R53.82)." The current listing was in error as you noted. This will be listed in the addenda in September. Thank you for pursuing this. And thank you for the reminder on Snomed.

Updates on status of ICD-11 and changes to other classification and terminology systems

Presumably the actual text written in the diagnosis is still in the system also so the person's doctor should know that history. But you are correct from the perspective of reporting systems and research using electronic health records. In the US, the term ME has rarely been diagnosed and...

Clinical overlap between fibromyalgia and myalgic encephalomyelitis. A systematic review and meta-analysis, 2022, Ramírez-Morales et al

Agreed If I remember correctly, the presenter at CDC's recent community call for ME (who recommended graded exercise and CBT) stated that FM and ME are a continuum with FM - pain - on one end and ME - fatigue - on the other. Can't make progress with such simplistic views

Updates on status of ICD-11 and changes to other classification and terminology systems

Yes, this was not as presented at the meeting and appears to be an error Thank you for investigating and reporting, Suzy.

Updates on status of ICD-11 and changes to other classification and terminology systems

Thank you for posting this, Suzy. For everyone, I've included additional context below on the US ICD issue and its impact, what the orgs actually proposed, and what CDC then recommended. @Colleen Steckel - As you know, the CDC stopped using Fukuda for clinical diagnosis in 2017 when it...

"The Why: The Historic ME/CFS Call To Arms": new book by Hillary J Johnson

Yea, remember that. And because CDC has refused to address it, they have given the space for clinicians like Gluckman to continue to recommend it.

"The Why: The Historic ME/CFS Call To Arms": new book by Hillary J Johnson

Yes, they failed to look at the evidence properly but driving that was their misconception about the nature of the disease. Reeves, the leader of the CDC program until 2010, referred to the outbreaks in the 1980s as mass hysteria. He is the one who broadened the criteria for CFS to focus on the...
