UK - Resources for help getting food during quarantine and other supermarket related problems

Yes, I usually find that Sainsbury's milk will still be drinkable up to its use-by date, even if the label tells you to use it within 3 days. The only time that regularly didn't work was in the horrendously hot periods over the summer.

Mini-crashes in late afternoon / early evening?

My caree normally finds she has to rest mid-afternoon in order to be able to get through the rest of the day - I thought this was quite common in PwME? Certainly she would do everything within her power to avoid having to carry on until 4 pm without a rest.

    Symptoms of Covid-19

That is scary. Someone I know lost her sister, who I'd guess would be late 30s/early 40s recently unexpectedly to a stroke, but she also tested positive for Covid-19 in hospital. What if it was actually the other way round, and she had Covid, but just took a while for it to show up, as has...

Question: Coronavirus & home sewn masks?

Yes, that occurred to me in the wee hours of the morning, when I was lying there unable to sleep. I think I can probably remember how to do them after my Home Economics teacher drummed it into me decades ago. Existing garments would be mainly of the T-shirt type, I think, and therefore less...

Question: Coronavirus & home sewn masks?

Well, that's vaguely what I've been wondering for weeks. If, as recommended, I were to bag it immediately after wearing, but then leave it for, say, a good couple of weeks to see whether I develop any symptoms and nothing happens, presumably I could assume that either I didn't have Covid and...

Question: Coronavirus & home sewn masks?

So, I went to my sewing box this evening to see what fabric I had - very little, it turns out, as I think most of it is in storage. The only piece I have is a long strip of cotton which is about an inch (aka 2.5 cm) narrower than a standard disposable surgical face mask, so I assume that's not...

Resources for help getting food during quarantine and safe handling of food

Not sure a) whether this is the best thread and b) whether this has already been posted, but it seemed useful (people's concerns about bringing the virus into the house, including on food)...

Question: Coronavirus & home sewn masks?

Wondering if breathing on them before you put them on works in this case - I think it's recommended for swimming goggles.

Yes, I can't understand it either. Yet again, the egg shelves in Sainsbury's were empty. I walked 2.5 miles to Waitrose today, to come away with only half a dozen eggs :( I think it's a combination of baking, panic-buying (still) and the recognition that you can keep eggs for a few weeks and...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Not sure whether this adds anything new? http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/coronavirus/why-france-has-4-times-as-many-coronavirus-deaths-as-germany/ar-BB12NGpd?li=BBoPWjQ&ocid=ASUDHP

I just don't understand why people won't leave messages - especially when you've given them your phone number with a note that the answerphone is on 24/7! That's because MY CAREE CAN'T COPE WITH PHONE CALLS! (Sorry for shouting) Then you get all the "well, we did try and ring several...

    Symptoms of Covid-19

And I think the gastric symptoms extend beyond diarrhoea, don't they? Something else which seems to have got filtered out en route from China.

Keeping Up Appearances - How to look good while feeling ill

My caree occasionally uses a product called Nilaqua, which she found in a mail order catalogue somewhere. I think it's a liquid rather than a powder like dry shampoo, which you apply and then towel dry. https://nilaqua.co.uk/ I don't think it's very cheap, though - although a quick search...

Question: Coronavirus & home sewn masks?

Hmm, the trouble with that, as I see it, is that I can think of at least 3 different types of dish towel: - linen ones (e.g. the sort of thing sold as souvenirs the world over) - cotton ones - towelling or other fluffy ones. Which is meant, and is there a significant difference between their...

    "Soap"

Ah yes, the hydrophobic and hydrophilic ends of the soap molecules - I remember that from chemistry lessons :) Thanks.

Yeah, but my caree has ME. She can't cope with watching all that TV :/ Maybe. I had a similar experience going to Waitrose today, where in the past it's been relatively civilised. Apart from all the young members of staff hanging around in the chiller aisle doing things, with no masks on :(...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I don't know if any of you are London-based and have been reading the Evening Standard? It's published several articles critical of the UK Govt. approach by London mayoral candidate Rory Stewart, who apparently was involved with combating the Ebola epidemic, and therefore presumably has a...

UK - Resources for help getting food during quarantine and other supermarket related problems

Were they? My caree qualifies on that basis, but hasn't been notified of anything :( My not-so-local Sainsbury's (which I visit because the local one is a no-no for various reasons I won't bother going into) let me down badly tonight. I had to queue so long I only got in maybe 15 minutes...

    "Soap"

Thanks for the replies (I've added a couple more options to my original post). I had a feeling it might well be the surfactants which did the damage, but wasn't sure.
