FWIW, my ME symptoms started as a type IV food sensitivity, which would involved t-cells and IFN-g. Symptoms would abruptly flare up 48 hrs after eating something, +/- just a few minutes. I lost that response after food poisoning, but that loss of IFN-g signalling didn't change my baseline...
The N95 does cause difficulty breathing, so that might interfere with concentrating on surgery.
"It is important to recognize that the optimal way to prevent transmission of microorganisms, such as viruses, is to use a combination of interventions from across the hierarchy of controls, not just...
I'm guessing it will be slow progress due to entrenched interests. I'm thinking of those jokes about companies that are continually pushing a new management technique with a new fancy acronym ... and the workplace just gets worse due to wasting time on the changes. The blame for failure is...
Isn't there also a downside to using respirators? I don't know how much one of those respirators will interfere with vision, concentration, etc, but certainly wouldn't want my surgeon to be doing serious work on me while wearing a WWII-style gasmask. I'm sure the new ones are much less...
And you might get tinnitus if you don't take 12 aspirin a day (I didn't, but have bad tinnitus). How much of the evidence is based on people who developed tinnitus from non-aspirin causes, but who did, as many people do, take the occasional tablet? There might be a valid % risk, but also one...
I agree with that. I wouldn't want be required to accept an unproven treatment due to fear of being labelled "an uncooperative patient". CBT/GET is in that category. How many patients might have been afraid to refuse?
It's a valid concern that needs to be reported on. However, it's not really a new problem, since I expect the same basic problems occurred with other changes in society and technology. Researchers probably complained about the same issues when newspapers were invented, or the telephone. Life...
I for one am very grateful that my GP was willing to write a prescription for it. It made a huge improvement in my quality of life. I don't regret any of the prescriptions I tried. I haven't tried an new ones in a long time, but that's because I haven't found any I've considered any more...
The stated basis of the book is that previous understanding of the immune system was too simplistic ... and then states a simplistic mechanism linking stress and immune function. That makes me think it's just a money-grab, rather than improving understanding of the immune system(s).
Yes, cuminum cyminum. I've had a few people report minor benefits from it, but none the dramatic effects it had on my PEM. I'm still hoping it will work well for someone else. Cuminaldehyde isn't a well-researched chemical, so I have no idea what mechanism is involved in its blocking of PEM...
Yes, but I'm certainly not saying that we should be trying "most" drugs. Nothing is 100 safe, including water or sucrose. Some drugs are highly likely to cause harm, especially when taken long-term. Other drugs are relatively safe (safer than some common foods), especially if taken for only a...
It needn't be intentional bias. If the effect is ~zero, then the studies are measuring random noise, which could be quite high due to the differences in the studies.
I expect there are plenty of stories of at least temporary vehicle repairs made with random items. If your fuel pump fails, you could drive home by rigging up a container to gravity-feed fuel into a carburetor. A lot of those examples are pre-vehicle-computer days, and...
So true. The length of time it takes to reach that stage depends on the individual. I'm not sure now how long it took me: 10-15 years? However long it took, I'm now okay with not searching for the next doctor or drug that will somehow make the nightmare end. I haven't lost hope of finding...
Slim is better than zero. I did stumble across a cure for my PEM. I certainly wouldn't have expected a common spice to 100% block PEM and then cure it, but it did. I've stumbled across other treatments that worked for specific problems. I haven't bothered to try prescription drugs for years...
I think that might be part of my objection to the question of "who is the best ME researcher". I suppose I have a vague belief that when an answer is found, it will be from someone isn't on the present list of prospects. Maybe that will be someone testing out a new diagnostic tool and trying...
