This papers sent shivers down my spine, twofold. First in what they found. But second how the "researchers" explain their findings.
Maturation it is called here and when it is researched in adults it is called senscense.
Maybe @dave30th could dive into this? How not to jump to conclusions.

Another very informing and well-written blog @ME/CFS Skeptic, much appreciated!
I have had ME/CFS for 33 years and I don't think there will be a cure during my lifetime.
I'm retired.
Catastrophizing? No, just realistic.
Not a genZ or millenial and after 50 years my German is quite rusty, but in a very fast tempo the host is putting out so much information about ME/CFS and LC that I would hope it would be mandatory for all doctors and psychiatrists and psychologists to watch and listen to. A great thank you to...
Sometimes I can find no reason at all for bad days. I even stopped looking for the reason why it happened.
Maybe it is just an unhelpful thought we picked up from the CBT/GET crowd.
I literally get a hot head when on my computer, this research could be an explanation.
I need a break after 10 minutes to cool down, when it is hot even sooner.
If I were still doing "boom or bust" after 33 years I might need (some form of) therapy. I'm not that stupid.
And you're right: fear of exercise and taking part in the Olympic Games would rule each other out too.
Isn't PEM the best argument against the fear-avoidance theory.
If I would have been led by fear I would not fall into the PEM trap.
Even after 33 years of experience I can still get myself into PEM.
You can call it stupid, maybe, but you can't call it fear-avoidance.
Thank you for your clear answer.
Your vastus lateralis is world famous now, going through at least 3 continents. Now let's hope researchers are paying attention too. Nice to see that local exercise physiology experts might get involved. Maybe they can come up with some ideas.
s4me is on...
A question @SNT Gatchaman : Could stomach muscles be affected by the same mechanism as the vastus lateralis is in the very severe patients?
Could NIRS/Moxy measure that or would it be too deep down to measure?
It would have been much worse if the lead authors were Walitt/Nath.
Could the paper summary have been worse if the Walitt/Nath study had not received so much criticism?
It all breathes not seek and find, but research only what you don't want to find.
Had they studied ME/CFS they could have known all of this.
Long time ago (1997) I had a 24-hour urine test that did show differences. Well monitored?
So much so that it came back with 2 pages of supplements to take.
My partner was doing fine on the same (healthy) diet. More than fulltime...
