I was thinking we are attempting to fundraise from our community and thats great but many people do loads of crowdfunding for much larger amounts for everything from medical bills to large projects. People can get millions of dollars for high profile crowdfundings!

It should be the same for Berkeley, most websites don't receive or store your card details, when you pay the information goes to your credit card company who pays Berkeley's account. Perhaps @dave30th can look into this?
I'm very sorry to hear about this and it sucks having this happen 3 times but many (perhaps most) people already buy online from amazon or other companies so your not increasing their risk if they already use their card online. That said it would have to be someone you trust to donate the money...

Thats one reason why they packed the supreme court, the right to free speech won't prevail when they choose to interpret their own laws to benefit their rich donors over the disabled poor.

There seems to be a bug, all donors are showing as USA donors
Its probably not my business why you can only donate via PayPal but are there other options that could make this work, buying a prepaid credit card, getting someone else to donate and you reimburse them?
