United Kingdom: News from BACME - British Association of Clinicians in ME/CFS

I know of Vitality360. They treat CFS as a psychological illness.

[Poll] Experiences of PWME taking the contraceptive pill

Hi @Sarah94 I am currently receiving treatment to address various issues, including painful and abnormally heavy periods, which started early on in my illness. I haven't had a period since beginning my treatment, so I cannot comment yet on its effectiveness on periods. Still, I have seen an...

Breathlessness and air hunger in ME/CFS

This thread sounds like everything I've pretty much experienced. A breathing disorder should be investigated by respiratory services.

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome after mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, 2022, Ahmed M. Eldokla

I think it depends on who the 'others' are. Vaccine-triggered illnesses can also be a huge liability problem for organisations that heavily fund pharma companies. [Edited: my bolding]

UK: The Guardian: "British army veterans denied treatment for brain injuries"

Perhaps the problem is the pressure on the NHS. Traumatic Injury medical care is costly. If they head down in the correct direction, the funding pressures would be immense, whereas the system is different in the US. The new question is should the NHS become privatised if it cannot cope with...

ME/CFS services in the United Kingdom

I think so. Patient criteria amongst other things should not be hidden.

ME/CFS services in the United Kingdom

I think the information ties back to what I discussed here. https://www.s4me.info/threads/uk-specialist-rehabilitation-medicine-services-for-me-cfs-and-long-covid.24903/ It doesn't seem to be popular opinion that ME is a CNS condition, but that is how the condition was described to me at the...

UK: The Guardian: "British army veterans denied treatment for brain injuries"

Blast injuries are overly well-reported causes of ABI. The situation is crazy over here. Are there several different beliefs about what Cancer is or is there universal agreement? I'm not sure how the UK is able to differentiate its interpretation of brain injury from the US.

ME/CFS services in the United Kingdom

I can confirm fatigue clinic is only for stable ME/CFS patients who can self-manage and do not require medication. I've been told by two separate services. The second asked, "Who told you?" :cautious: The criteria sounds like it's for patients in remission in my opinion. Yet they were willing...

    Confirmed SIBO diagnosis

I done my test privately. But please look into if the NHS do it.

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) - articles, social media and discussion

This is when the complaints process kicks in. The doctor must explain why they think there is no way the patient can be a rare case. So far my physical testing has proven the ME FND diagnosis to be BS. We've found breathing irregularities, GI problems, hormone imbalances, and inflammation...

    Confirmed SIBO diagnosis

I recieved a SIBO diagnosis recently which is recognised as causing IBS and is linked to traumatic injury in some cases as well. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5347643/#:~:text=The%20pathogenesis%20of%20irritable%20bowel,SIBO)%2C%20causes%20IBS%20symptoms...

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) - articles, social media and discussion

Exactly my experience as well. I was recently told by a neuro charity that it doesn't sound like I have ME/CFS due to my tell-tale neurological symptoms and that ME/CFS is an FND condition. The NICE guideline refers to ME being categorised as neurological, so how can it be? Have all sole neuro...

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) - articles, social media and discussion

When you have no prior knowledge of a condition this is the approach that people take. We put trust in healthcare professionals and there are usually relatively no issues with other conditions. I was the same with my ME/CFS diagnosis, I was just glad to have received a diagnosis and the promise...

Feeling like I'm starving, or continuing to feel hungry despite a full stomach

We have to lock away the snacks in my house as I will constantly eat them even with a full stomach. I'm just suggesting other possibilities. I'm not so sure as according to my medical records hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis dysregulation is noted. Just that fatigue clinic is not the...

Feeling like I'm starving, or continuing to feel hungry despite a full stomach

I shouldn't quote Wiki but it was the first thing that came up that does a good job at explaining it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychoneuroimmunology I have also posted the ME/CFS PNI model I was shown during the explanation of the condition I received at the fatigue clinic on this forum.

Feeling like I'm starving, or continuing to feel hungry despite a full stomach

I fall into the overweight category now, but I also had the same appetite issues when I wasn't overweight. The fatigue clinic I attended also had a dietician as it is considered common...

Feeling like I'm starving, or continuing to feel hungry despite a full stomach

PwME can also feel hungry due to dysfunction of the hypothalamus and pituitary as both regulate appetite and is part of the PNEI model of ME/CFS.

Management of traumatic brain injury (TBI): a clinical neuroscience-led pathway for the NHS, 2021, Li et al

A very interesting paper discussing current and proposed NHS Nuero-led Trauma care pathways. The following text is taken from the paper: Current service provision and patient flow After trauma, the priority in the UK has been to reduce mortality after moderate/severe TBI, with the focus...
