Trial By Error: A Plea to Fiona Godlee on a Familiar Topic

The therapy was conducted 1:1 but is it clear the parents weren't present? (I seem to remember they were for the initial recruiting interviews in school)

Building an evidence base for management of severe ME (including sleep management)

It would be v. useful to have evidence for whether/how much rest at the beginning would lead to better outcomes. others may have mentioned this

Australian teenager tells story of threats and mistreatment

@MyalgicE and anyone else in Australia: What do you think it will take to change your guideline? How influential would the removal of GET/CBT by the UK NICE be if it happens? There's the growing body of literature pointing out the poor evidence base for these 'treatments' too. How...

SMILE trial data to be released

In year 11 (when my daughter's problems began) we were told that if my daughter could only get in for a short bit of the morning including morning registration it would count as a morning session on the register. If she went home 5 minutes after afternoon registration having been there all...

Mirror: Woman, 28, goes from keen runner to year in dark room because of severe disorder

Yes I understood you :). It's got red flags all over it. No such thing as a cure all. I can see a lot of people spending money on it though. eta (perhaps my post sounded supportive? - it wasn't meant to be)

Mirror: Woman, 28, goes from keen runner to year in dark room because of severe disorder

I suspect photobiomodulation warrants it's own discussion thread. Because of the claims being made for it, including safety, it sounds attractive and people will try it.

Mirror: Woman, 28, goes from keen runner to year in dark room because of severe disorder

Interesting @chrisb, thanks. I'll need to go back and read again properly when fresher but a couple of quotes: Well the mention of mitochondria and ATP caught my attention. Figure 3 in this paper is well worth looking at imo. It's a cure all!? I don't know what to make of this but still...

#MEAction: "Unseen: Black people living with ME"

I will just make one narrow point about inclusivity. Who joins or supports the activity and finances of an organisation? For some people to get involved with any organisation, to join in a group endeavour with a large group of people who they don't know, it can feel a lot more comfortable if...

Mirror: Woman, 28, goes from keen runner to year in dark room because of severe disorder

I did a quick search and glanced through the results and notice that there's interest in it as a therapy for several things including some eye conditions and SFNeuropathy including a few trials. It also sounds as though it's been embraced by some money making possibly woo merchants to me. I...

Blog: Hilda Bastian, "Should We Trust Meta-Analyses with Meta-Conflicts of Interest?"

Yes, and scrutiny of reviews by journal editors isn't enough of a check in some cases as we know. I wouldn't trust that fish's judgement
