Some schools such as my daughter's (a state secondary) have trained counsellors. A friend of mine who is a counsellor has also managed to develop a part-time paid position for herself at another school.
I don't know how common this is, perhaps not very.
I imagine different schools will adapt...
I have some sympathy for view MErmaid but we may have different ideas about how to go about this and what direction to take before we even begin to get started. I don't know that we could do better

I'm strongly in favour of supporting the needs of children and the most severe raised by @Amw66 and @Keela Too . They're our most vulnerable and should be able to count on the rest of us.
Surely the content of at least one of those 10 min speeches could have been sent before hand with the agenda.

The UK happens to do really well in this field of design/production. It's a successful part of the creative industries, which are a much bigger part of the economy of the UK than people might think.
