Post-Exertional Malaise Is Associated with Hypermetabolism, Hypoacetylation and Purine Metabolism Deregulation in ME/CFS Cases, 2019, McGregor et al

Right, diabetes could be one important cause to consider; but, it may just be dehydration. Why does my urine smell sweet?

Post-Exertional Malaise Is Associated with Hypermetabolism, Hypoacetylation and Purine Metabolism Deregulation in ME/CFS Cases, 2019, McGregor et al

Is it possible the confusion is arising because we’re assuming the high PEM patients are the, sicker, more severely affected patients? That isn’t necessarily the case at all, the most ill patients may need to be much more vigilant about avoiding activity; whereas milder patients can push...

Post-Exertional Malaise Is Associated with Hypermetabolism, Hypoacetylation and Purine Metabolism Deregulation in ME/CFS Cases, 2019, McGregor et al

Does anyone else keep needing to pee when on the verge of crashing? What could this mean?!

Post-Exertional Malaise Is Associated with Hypermetabolism, Hypoacetylation and Purine Metabolism Deregulation in ME/CFS Cases, 2019, McGregor et al

Could it be both the controls and high PEM patients have been active; whereas low PEM patients have been resting? So the metabolites measured correlate with activity levels, not necessarily disability.

JAMA -"Advances in understanding the Pathophysiology of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" by Anthony Komaroff

IIRC the ‘benign’ was only to distinguish it from the polio myelitis of the time, and signified it wasn’t associated with increased mortality.

UK Westminster Hall debate on Electromagnetic Fields: Health Effects (25 June 2019)

I suspect it’s more a local factor than national policy. Have they rolled out 5g at the University she works at in France? Or, perhaps her location in France is just more built up and polluted with EMF than wherever she retreats to back in Wales...?

Video clip of a Australasian conference on MUS, mentions ME.

As they like elephant metaphors: the real elephant in the room is that PWME lack the energy to do work. This causes us no end of problems. And society's apparent inability, or unwillingness, to understand and accept this as anything more than a moral failing on our part. We are not...

Michael Sharpe: Mind, Medicine and Morals: A Tale of Two Illnesses (2019) BMJ blog - and published responses

How ridiculous. These treatments are neither benign nor effective, and certainly not both. That's all I have to say on the subject. He really wants to know?!? This is puzzling him? Oh, sorry; it's probably rhetoric. Sharpe is a frustrated novelist, like Wessely.

UK: Locations that offer CPET/VO2max testing

I'm also wondering if there is anywhere experienced in dealing with ME/CFS patients that is able to provide reliable 2 day CPET testing [1], and provide a detailed analysis/ written report [2], located in the UK. 1. The team needs to understand the symptoms and limitations of ME patients, in...

Blog: 'Summary so far of "Something in the blood"' by Simon McGrath

Also of possible relevance is Tomas et al, 2019. Note that this isn't a plasma swap study, but they were able to demonstrate that: "Results showed there to be no significant differences in individual mitochondrial complex activity or respiratory activity supported by fatty acid oxidation or...

    Low-dose Naltrexone articles and experiences

I've tried LDN 2 or 3 times in my lifetime. The first consignment was titrated and encapsulated by a compounding pharmacy in the US, and shipped to me, here in the UK. It did nothing... Nothing at all. I can't really be sure what was in the capsules. I relegated LDN to the domain of failed...

    Low-dose Naltrexone articles and experiences

My reading is that while the Pharmacist consultation service is no longer available; private GP telephone consultations are still available at a cost of £35.

Update from Ron Davis April 2019 Interview with BenH

I don’t sweat much at all. The only time I do is if I take a hot bath. But I’ve always suspected this is a consequence of side effects from certain medications I’ve taken in the past: Roaccutane and Ciprofloxacin.

    Exosomes

Ohh I see... crikey, this looks important!! I think it may be worth putting this message at the top, and renaming the thread. Something like: ‘Something in the blood’: could it be an exosome?! What do you reckon moderators? Just an idea...

Mystery illnesses reveal the power of our minds to influence health, New Scientist

The rest of this article is behind a paywall, so I don’t know if ME gets a mention... (as some people persist in lumping it in this broad category). https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg24232240-100-mystery-illnesses-reveal-the-power-of-our-minds-to-influence-health/

Enterovirus/ sewage exposure?... Could that be an epidemiological factor here, if ME/CFS is more prevalent in surfers?

B-Lymphocyte Depletion in Patients With ME/cfs: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial (2019) Fluge et al

I suspect that is the case, but also patients in Fluge et al were likely more severely affected with limited mobility.

B-Lymphocyte Depletion in Patients With ME/cfs: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial (2019) Fluge et al

Does anyone know if patients in the placebo group got active premedication before their main course of ‘Rituximab’, or were all their meds fakes? Isn’t Ritux usually served following a starter of glucocorticoids, and possibly some other stuff? These might be a possible cause of adverse...
