I think this is a very important point, in that patients should be entitled to symptomatic treatment by the relevant specialists as a fundamental function of any health system:
And a very good argument in favor of getting rid of the bullshit CFS services, even the ones which aren't actively...
Unfortunately this seems to be an ad which their site has created for an affiliate which pays them revenue to promote their product.
I think it would be more productive to discuss the specific research, and leave the ad (and traffic to it) out of the equation :-P
I hope to see the relevant BPS "researchers" face professional consequences for their active campaign against ME patients. They've said some awful things about us, and implied a lot more, and I'd like to see them held accountable, preferably unable to get a job at any reputable institution, and...
I don't think it's specific enough by itself. But a bad enough value on a single CPET does exclude deconditioning/sedentary lifestyle.
It also could depend on what else is being measured at the same time. My specialist is also a cardiologist, so did an ECG with my CPET. Combined with tests...
Yes, I wasn't impressed with one of the studies which claimed to disprove XMRV involvement. And the way some parties used the disproving of XMRV involvement to support their claim that ME is psychosomatic was particularly distasteful.
But the other studies debunking XMRV were methodologically...
It probably won't ... US courts can't enforce their judgements in other countries. Some might opt to cooperate, but many would not. Even countries friendly with the US recognize US copyright law as being ridiculous in general.
Sci-hub has domains in several countries - they'd have to all be...
There have been a couple studies which use multiple methods to test for a retrovirus. One method indicates there is a retrovirus, but more specific methods indicate there is not. Basically viruses are strings of DNA (or RNA in the case of a retrovirus). We have tons of DNA and RNA in our...
How do these idiots get anyone to take them seriously? How does the NHS appoint Hilly Raphael Quigley as the clinical lead of Oxfordshire CFS services, despite that she has no apparent qualifications, beyond taking a transdisciplinary "Social Sculpture" course where artistic bullshit gets...
It's a common type of behavior in many fields, though less common and more repugnant in medicine. Basically there are people who are very good at social climbing, networking, etc. They usually aren't particularly good (or bad) at their actual job, but it doesn't matter because they know that...
The study is at http://sci-hub.io/10.1089/152460902753473471 and isn't very convincing. 20 of the 58 women dropped out, 5 of them specifically due to GI effects caused by the prunes.
The controlling of the diet was pretty poor as well, since the apple control group dropped their intake of...
I don't think it's about the gender of the author, so much as the exploitation of gender to sell something to a specific audience. E.g., the "gift-giving" pyramid scheme that's been popular on Facebook around Christmas time, dressed up as woman-power sisterhood to conceal the greed, inequity...
PEM specifically requires some form of exertion to trigger it. PEM isn't triggered by rest or inactivity, since it wouldn't be post-exertional in that case. There are also some diseases where similar symptoms are caused by circulatory problems, thus improved with regular activity.
