The science of craniocervical instability and other spinal issues and their possible connection with ME/CFS - discussion thread

If you follow the link, 1 patient that was reported dramtically improved says she is now 90% housebound and another patient also describes "little progress". A third patient describes his/her me/cfs symptoms as unchanged.

    Trans-NIH ME/CFS Working Group Telebriefings 2020-2021 (next telebriefing March 30 2021)

Sorry, I got a little narrowed in on the hypothetical point that percent approved can be misleading number, and it doesn't necessarily imply fairness. I think the NIH recognizes this because they do fund more than 15% of grants. I just checked Jennie Spotila's and I think it was 5/9 for last...

    Trans-NIH ME/CFS Working Group Telebriefings 2020-2021 (next telebriefing March 30 2021)

I have to disagree on this point - if the grants are of high quality, a 15% approval rate is not necessarily "fair". Pretend the burden of disease are similar for this example - if you said something like AIDS had 20 grants submitted versus dementia's 100 grants, and at least 15 grants were as...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Inability to work from home and some of the lowest health insurance industries as independent contractors (at least in the US). I think there is also an economic argument that unfinished projects as @Perrier noted are assets in limbo. If maintenance and repair are included, certainly some...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

That is what I read in spain I believe, they are considering first allowing constructions workers back to work. My other concern is that this will lead to other people wanting to get back to work, and so on. As May comes and cases are not resolved, people who have quarentined for 6-8 weeks may...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Talk of small reopenings has me wondering about a large number of people that have put off the doctor, hospital, pharmacy, radiologist for a few weeks, but for whose problems are growing increasingly problematic or annoying. Myself included, I've been realizing I've been telling myself I'll be...

    NeuroPsychiatric conditions Post COVID-19

Wessley & Co will be there when post-COVID starts to be talked about, there's no escaping that, they are moths to flames. We can only hope - or pressure - researchers, doctors, and policy holders that have spoke up to also be at that table. I'm taking about Nath, Collins, Koroshtez, Davis...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

A caution about assuming mortality this early - many of the articles I read on the Diamond Princess were meant to show lower mortality than expected, but I have sadly noticed that since I read those articles there have been 4 additional deaths (from 7 to 11) and there are still critically ill...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Most media and commentary I'm seeing keeps talking about getting through the peak and we'll be through this in 6-8 weeks. After the peak things will reopen and the economy will recover. How accurate is this? How do countries that are on lockdown re-open? The whole thing starte in some places...

The biology of coronavirus COVID-19 - including research and treatments

I saw that China was working on this type of vaccine for covid, in the same vein as the ebola vaccine you mention. https://statnano.com/news/67536/China’s-First-Coronavirus-Vaccine-Delivered-for-Human-Trials The search also led me to this vaccine theory, which seems a far way off and I didn't...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

It's also a good reminder that a large portion of asymptomatic positives can go on to develop symptoms, in this case about 2/3rds, more than actually ended up being asymptomatic. I saw this and found it pretty interesting and topical to your comment...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Todays briefing from White House, just the doctor's, I had to transcribe this so I hope there are no errors. Deborah Brix States w/ low numbers can do contact tracing 550,000 tests run (14% positive rate in people symptomatic enough to get tested) Focused on UK report from 500,000 to 20,000...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

That game was in February 19th in Italy (Milan). It would've been very early for both countries, but it's possible it contributed. I remember many were already calling the 2nd legs (just two weeks ago) of the CL to be called off, it seems insane that they went on even at the time, particularly...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Hospitals are reaching peak capacity in major cities now in CA and NY especially, and many healthcare workers are getting sick, unfortunately one nurse has died in NYC already. PPE is now a common word on every news channel. Note that these are massive hosptials to be fair, but so far Mass...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Here is a summary of the conference yesterday: https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/23/trump-coronavirus-lockdown-skepticism-143800 As I understand it now, policy would include federal aid, including building hospitals in "hotspots", and possibly a vague form of tracing, but no lockdown and...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

Uh, looks like the U.S. is not quarantining or tracing. Very difficult Trump speech, one of the most unclear, but it sounds like we're actually going to relax restrictions in the coming week. Some states can continue on their restrictions, but interstate travel can continue freely.

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I'm wondering how this crisis could impact me/cfs research. We were benefitting from stable research in other fields, making me/cfs an attractive "new" field for researchers to enter. Will their attention be turned to viral pandemics? Will the scraps we got go elsewhere? Will research stall over...

Coronavirus - worldwide spread and control

I was initially optimistic about things here in the US. While some states have brilliant measures, there's still an issue of interstate travel, which needs to be stopped immediately, and family coming to visit each other and commuting, etc. and the half measures (only groups of under 50, work...

    Trans-NIH ME/CFS Working Group Telebriefings 2020-2021 (next telebriefing March 30 2021)

Thank you for the information. I can confirm, at least, clinically, my interactions with neurologists have been the most unhelpful.

    Trans-NIH ME/CFS Working Group Telebriefings 2020-2021 (next telebriefing March 30 2021)

My purely hypothetical take on the situation, from having watched Koroshetz talk on a few occasions is that he is more of politician, who got strong armed into me/cfs by Collins. I doubt he has any real interest in the condition and just puts on a political facade of saying the right things...
