I would agree that the best way to.look at evidence fir anything is to organise and look at it in a systematic way. Especially when you are looking at a large amount of information.
However, a system to organise data to make sure that nothing is overlooked and the resulting opinion discusses...
As someone who is affected by but is quite outside these GRADE systems and processes they seem a bit absurd. The HitchHiker's Golgafrinchams come to mind.
The much vaunted PACE trial was very badly designed from the start. Even with all the obvious errors that should have stacked the results...
Exactly.
It doesn't matter what the hypothesis is for the trigger.
It doesn't matter what the hypothesis is for why some people recover from a virus and others don't.
It doesn't matter what definition of ME you use.
GET and directive CBT do not work. It really is that simple.
Edit - missed...
"For years, patients and charities have been calling on healthcare professionals to recognise ME as a medical illness rather than a psychological problem and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) was due to publish long-awaited landmark guidance."
No.
We object to the...
Did we not have a case when someone.....Coyne?.... was giving a talk and some guy showed up and hogged the floor, throwing in lots of questions about something complete different?
I remember someone who was there posting about it IIRC when asked by another attendee to stop because this was an...
I'm not sure whether that's in response to my post @MeSci. Just in case it is in reply to -
This person did have the correct test for an active infection. They were regularly having lateral.flow tests which flagged a positive then did a PCR test which was negative. As the PCR was negative it...
Great article but not terribly happy about the harassment bit either.
If we're going to talk about harassment then talk about it in a balanced way. I daresay there have been ill judged letters or comments over the years but -

Prof Spector :
"So I think the whole thing needs to be much more carefully managed than just giving it to everybody which would be a huge waste and ethically dubious given the resources we have. I think we need a more targeted approach than last time."
I have heard of people who have an active...
The more I think about what Hammond said, the more I see the need for more adherence to suitable guidelines not less.
Hammond makes it sound like he's prepared to try all sorts of things including cold showers and anti virals and goodness knows what .... based on anecdote.
Yet for every...
That sums of the state of things doesn't - they choose the "least harm" option.
Not that I judge them at all for that. That's been the best most of us could hope for in our interactions with healthcare in the last 3 decades or so - the least worst option.
If that isn't a damning indictment...

Perhaps I am not looking at this right.
Annoying as he may be, I think Hammond is not helping himself at all. Nor is Sharpe.
All of this is on open record & none of it will be deniable in the future.
The behaviour exhibited -sealioning or just being manipulative if you will- is...
And this in itself is an argument against the kind of "individualized" one size fits none guff he's going on about.
If he refers to the treatment he provides as GET, even though it might not be, and his patient encourages another to accept an offer of GET at another clinic and that other...
Yes. At least I did now it just seems the norm for me.
Due to my personal situation when I first got sick I had the "through the rabbit hole experience" of one day being my usual self and the next , by virtue of a few simple letter added to my medical records, discovering it meant I was viewed...
It's possible if as @Simbindi says new members with different ideas join up up and dilute the opinions of current members.
Unfortunately,in the short term at least, no, i really doubt it.
Already BACME have had a conference discussing their dysregulation hypothesis which replaces the...
Completely agree.
On the other hand though, if BACME are publicly stating that they are prepared to work with the guidelines, even if their fingers are crossed behind their backs as they say it, then it does weaken the "well, the clinics won't support it argument".
The only thing that's for...
A slight aside perhaps but we've been hearing a lot about "individualised treatment" recently. Usually in defence of continuing such therapies as CBT & GET.
I think one if the problems with "individualised" therapy of this kind is that the therapist will be more likely to stick their label of...
This is all very well but we don't know how long immunity lasts.
So if the effects of the first two jabs have waned sufficiently then then the elderly and vulnerable could be dicing with death all over again.
Given the cost to produce, deliver and inject all those people the first time around...
