So, these are essentially doctor-led support groups, for one condition per group I assume?
I think that might be a good idea, at least for some of the less controversial diseases. In Norway, you can get a stay at a rehabilitation center, or hospitals will have patients courses at the hospital...
But asking the question would still make MP's/politicians aware of misuse/misrepresentation of the quote, and the conduct of the researchers? Someone reading the newsletter would have no way of knowing it wasn't a statement made to the trial participants.
Perhaps, you guys are probably right, did notice it was a smallish study as well.
I'd still argue though, that if anyone haven't checked to see if placebo needs to be blinded to have an (placebo)effect - then it's an assumption. But my google-fu went away with my mudlded brain :p
And, someone have actually tested this:
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2010/dec/22/placebo-effect-patients-sham-drug
But didn't read the study itself, to see if it might be valid:
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0015591
That's a common assumption, but do we really know that?
I remember reading an interview with an illusionist, saying he found people either knowing or suspecting he was - ehm - 'doing his thing to influence them', was easier to actually trick. Maybe that's not entirely the same situation, but I...
Nothing new here, but I'm quit happy with this beein brought up by the editor himself, in the journal for medical professionals. Included an discussion about different thngs that can bias meta-reviews. He really opened up the door for us now - to start pointing out the problems with the...
That Nina Andresen person is _really_ annoying. I can sort of deal with Vogt, Woller, Landmark, Malterud and that gang - you know where they are coming from and what to expect. But this Nina person, has this gift of twisting reality, mixed with the aura of seemingly expertice - and the advantage...
The original article reads like an ad - ending with:
and his contact information, email and phone.
There's also this gem, his 'truth witness' for the fitnessplan he presents:
"According to Jim Beatty, personal trainer and owner of FitnWell in Philadelphia: "There is always progress to be...
Steinkopf is a rockstar!! :D
The need to point out the financial interest might seem weird to non-norwegians, but I think it's crucial to hammer in this point. Landmark has for years been accepted as an "ME expert" and used by journalist etc to give an opinion on all things ME
Ah, that's the important little bit I was missing - thanks :)
I still think it's strange they didn't include at least one datapoint, to get at idea about if it might be beneficial to patients or not. Also find the conclusion misleading, : "
Clinical implications: Warm water immersion appears...
Edit: I'm sorry, not really sure why I replied to your post, if my answer seems totally unrelated :)
He has an interest in and is invested in MUS and theories around that, ME/CFS especially. Wrote a paper on “psychoneuroimmunology”, and seems to truly belive our minds are controlling our...
You are just getting a little taste of the truly absurd ME-debate in Norway. This is the level it's been at, for the last decade or so.
I wrote a rather gloomy post, and deleted it again, because I truly belive things are very, very slowly starting to change. The norwegian documentary shown on...
Since I didn't know who Lauren Laverne is, I googled. At least the info about FM in the media coverage seems pretty good? Both the articles I took a peak at mentions "no cure".
Perhaps she/they only ment trying to get enough symptom management in place, to see if continued work is possible for...
