MRC invites proposals CFS and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Aug 2017

Hmmm, nothing on metabolomics. Way to go, MRC.

Ah, now I understand. I cheated and googled. :sneaky:

@Joel gif overload, that hurt. :arghh: I don't understand the last one. Is it a quiz? Any prizes for the first to get it?

    Total and 'Active' Serum B12

Thanks @MarcNotMark I can't believe how much cheaper those prices are. I could be tested and have a nice trip to the Netherlands for the amount I'll have to pay a British lab. Welcome to Rip Off Britain. Unfortunately, that's another referral service, so no good for me. Useful information for...

    Total and 'Active' Serum B12

With my active B12 level, I don't think that's going to happen. Thanks.

    Total and 'Active' Serum B12

Thanks, @Amw66. Biolabs do offer the tests but, unfortunately, they are a referral only service. https://privatebloodtests.co.uk/ look like my best option at the moment.

    Total and 'Active' Serum B12

I've just posted that and only now is my memory telling me that you're in Canada. Yes?

    Total and 'Active' Serum B12

Are you in the UK, Mij? Did you get it done privately? If so, do you recall the lab? Yes, I think that's because the cobalamin is already bound to the methyl group and is absorbed directly into the bloodstream. It isn't picked up by the usual carrier proteins found in the enteric route. Any...

A Novel Nutriceutical Treatment of ME/CFS, 2017, Comhaire

Yes, that's right. Within the list, there are a sequence of three symptoms that are 'and/or' It's a little ambiguous because it could be taken to mean either: post exertional malaise and/or fatigue and/or pain or post exertional malaise and/or post exertional fatigue and/or post exertional...

    Total and 'Active' Serum B12

Yikes! I assume that was your total serum B12? My understanding is that 210 has always been outwith the reference range. The private lab that did our testing would have flagged that as insufficient. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the lab results the hospital ran but her GMP considered them to be...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

Agreed that fatigue and depression aren't behaviours. The behaviour is taking yourself away from company, not taking care of your appearance, not eating, sleeping more than usual etc.

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

Not at all. The behaviour is what you do when a certain set of symptoms and a particular type of immune response is present.

Would that be the same CCC that allows 'Post Exertional Malaise and/or Fatigue'?

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

Behaviour doesn't have to be a conscious process. Flinching at a fake punch is behaviour. Shivering when it's cold is behaviour. As far is illness concerned, some conditions may be associated with sickness behaviour, others not. Sickness behaviour is associated with certain infections, perhaps...

    Total and 'Active' Serum B12

Warning: this post has sod all to do with ME. May be of interest to some for the B12 element. So, as predicted, that didn't go well; dismissive but not hostile. Last Wednesday, I spoke to my mother's GP on the phone at around midday. Mum had her blood drawn for the B12 test the day before but...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

This reminds me of a hypothetical game I played in the early years of ME. On a good day I would be able to walk down to the local shops but it was a struggle. On the way back, as I was nearing the house and barely able to lift my legs, I would ask myself "if there was a lion chasing me, would I...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

There's too much dense information in that paper for me to read it thoroughly and take it in just now but I did skim it. I'm just wondering how high the quality of their evidence is. Anyone fancy looking at the references they use to support their claims?

Phase III Rituximab Trial - News

Yeah, we really need to have that 'What is depression' discussion sometime but I can't find a suitable place for it. Maybe we should just put it in the members only ME/CFS forum.
