Is there such a thing as mild orthostatic intolerance?

I also get orthostatic hypotension (despite being a short woman) but it's a very different situation to the sort of orthostatic intolerance that someone with ME might experience. It isn't the fatigue that causes problems standing for prolonged periods. It's the feeling of lightheadedness and...

Is there such a thing as mild orthostatic intolerance?

My experience of OI has been all over the place, sometimes mild, very occasionally and for short periods moderately severe - and to cap it all, sometimes it's like POTS, sometimes like NMH. It's difficult to make any sense of it but overexertion has definitely been an aggravating factor...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

Is the evolution of civilisation analogous to biological evolution? It certainly isn't encoded in our genetic material but then neither is any learned behaviour. But the capacity to learn is and we already had the genetic capacity for modern civilisation 10,000 years ago. The only biological...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

Remember that this all began when you asserted that evolution had purpose and design? and You seem to be confusing the intelligence of animals with the intelligence of a process. Intelligence is no more integral to evolution by sexual selection than it is to evolution by natural selection...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

There are other ways to assess condition (call loudness, quality of territory held) but if males didn't use their trains, they wouldn't be peacocks. My point is only that sexual selection is not an intelligent process.

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

Yes, the theory goes that it indicates that the male is showing good health by being able to display such extravagant plumage, which is energetically costly and makes him conspicuous to predators. But if evolution was really intelligent, females wouldn't bother with all that show, they'd just...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

Sexual selection refers to the selection of characteristics that don't directly enhance survival but lead to greater mating success, e.g. the croak of a male frog won't help to evade predators or find food but it will attract females. There's nothing intrinsically intelligent about it. It's...

You mean natural selection? It's more of a biased randomness.

HPV vaccination and risk of ME/CFS

I don't think anyone is going to be able to give you assurance about any possible connection @hedgehog but Norwegians do keep very thorough records. A lot of girls who have been given the vaccination report ME onset shortly after. It's a bit reminiscent of infants showing signs of autism...

Phase III Rituximab Trial - News

That's exactly how I interpreted the original announcement via Marky90. Here's hoping but perhaps a bit too much to expect.

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

It's a bit OT and there's quite a long one at the other place. If we have the conversation here, it's likely to get involved. So a separate thread might be in order.

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

It's all a bit above my head. I'll need to go away and think about it. I may be some time. Ohhhhhh, yes! Edited to add (before I go): the original 'depression' clearly is a thing, though, and was appropriate when it was first coined even though the mechanism was/is not understood...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

But that just isn't catchy and there's nothing we humans like more than a pithy phrase! Many words and phrases are open to abuse, misinterpretation and sleight of hand re-interpretation, such as 'recovery' and 'functional'. The problem is the abusers, not the abused.

    Total and 'Active' Serum B12

Thanks @Ryan31337 That looks like a great option and definitely cheaper than the other place I found. Your elevated active B12 profile seems similar to mine. Did you test high for MMA despite that?
