Member comments wanted: Second section (Who the guideline is for) of the NICE ME/CFS guidelines draft scope

I am not sure how less impaired is related to diagnostic criteria. A mild or moderate ME patient is less impaired than a severe one, but they are all ME patients. If you are suggesting less impaired means not having ME, then i can begin to follow, but the answer to patient manipulation is not...

Ron Davis’s big immune study is looking at HLA genes (HLA, WTF?) Here’s the story. [Simon M blog]

Agree with everything said but would add: I am not sure if there is a direct link between the duration of a grant and a breakthrough discovery. 5 years is probably a very common grant duration and I am sure Ron Davis would have applied for the longest duration available to ensure continuity of...

Resistance To Science and Technology by Julian Vigo (Forbes.com)

I do think it's the case. Simon's power is waning and now he relies on people like this. Simon only cares about the message being sent out, nothing else. Regardless of his involvement, he will likely think this a very successful outcome.

Resistance To Science and Technology by Julian Vigo (Forbes.com)

It also confirms our suspicions around the timing of the article. There was no other explanation other than Simon reaching out to his old 'friends' for favours, in a time of need.

Ron Davis: Grant award: Molecular and single-cell immunology in ME/CFS

Just FYI, Ron did mention this application just after he was turned down for the research collaborative centre grants.

BMJ Peer review of Wilshire et al re-analysis of PACE paper

She doesn't seem to be too active on twitter, but just noticed her most recent tweets were promoting a joint event between BMJ and Swiss Re on the Science and Politics of Food. Doesn't bode well.

Steven Lubet: Trial by Error: Professor Sharpe's intemperate remarks for whom is he speaking?

They're more serious. But if every article concentrates on the same items we might miss a new angle. The new angle exposes a side to the PACE brigade, that they can conceal until we temporarily, for the sake of argument, accept A, B and C.

It's his last resort. Pity, it was fun while it lasted.

Steven Lubet: Trial by Error: Professor Sharpe's intemperate remarks for whom is he speaking?

I think the point of the article is not that you have to accept any of those assumptions. That's just how he is pitching his questions, or framing his argument. His article is about the silence of others, it's not another rehash article of everything, that is why he is setting everything else...

Is this an admission the trial was a waste of time ?

Mirror: Tory minister demands comedian Ricky Gervais apologises for branding ME sufferers 'lazy' in offensive joke

Yes for the most part although a few are still fanning the flames. Not sure where the MEA association stands, but they did get a response from Ricky Gervais.

Seems to be a bit of exercise promotion going on.

Mirror: Tory minister demands comedian Ricky Gervais apologises for branding ME sufferers 'lazy' in offensive joke

Me too. I see people tweeting about it and I groan even more. Time to let it go, get our priorities in order. Is it an unfortunate by-product of Unrest?

Chris Ponting's project to replicate Mark Davis’s remarkable findings of immune activation in ME/CFS (S McGrath blog)

This is from another thread but thought I'd add it here. Would be good to understand why there isn't more funding for this study. Also, I would guess Mark Davis' work will have progessed a lot in the next few years if he continues to get funding from OMF. Is there a fear that a PhD study...

I didn't read this but I fear the Rickey Gervais angle could easily backfire on us. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/711428/Ricky-Gervais-Fame-ME-joke-MP-Steve-Brine-Apologise/amp?__twitter_impression=true
