Graded activity is an important component in CBT to reduce severe fatigue: cancer survivors (Knoop et al., 2019)

They seem to do pragmatic (and feasibility) trials to collect data to find out which outcomes at what timepoint are most likely to give a positive result in a later clinical trial. The outcomes are not chosen according to importance to patients, ability to compare to other trials or conditions...

Graded activity is an important component in CBT to reduce severe fatigue: cancer survivors (Knoop et al., 2019)

Maybe this is similar to the Havana syndrome where exposure to toxic chemicals causes brain damage in some people that are predisposed to it. In more classical ME, the damage could come from the initial infection and immune response.

Work Rehabilitation and Medical Retirement for [ME/CFS] Patients. A Review and Appraisal of Diagnostic Strategies, 2019, Vink et al

Thank you for pointing this out. One would need a clinical trial or some other compelling data to know whether this was true or not. I doubt these exist.

Havana Syndrome: U.S. and Canadian diplomats targeted with possible weapon causing brain injury and neurological symptoms

The psychiatrist involved in this study insists it's not mass hysteria The reasoning here is interesting because it suggests that normal human beings that receive ordinary medical investigations might get a mass hysteria diagnosis instead. Do you have to be from an upper socioeconomic...

Per Fink awarded the "Civil Courage" prize, Sept 2019

I wanted to post this but Chesire beat me to it. They have the nerve to pretend this is for standing up for patients too. No it's just doctors that like Fink because his scam gives them the excuse to get rid of inconvenient patients.

Abnormal Eye and Cranial Movements Triggered by Examination in People with Functional Neurological Disorder, 2019, Edwards et al

Yes, they really mean it Unfortunately there are some serious limitations in this study. There was no control group or independent observer blinded to the diagnosis. The patients also came from FND clinics which could mean that the observers were personally invested in finding evidence...

Viewpoint: “It’s All in Your Head”—Medicine’s Silent Epidemic

Common sense tells me that if this general approach worked, there would be enthusiasm from everyone involved and there wouldn't be a crisis.

Viewpoint: “It’s All in Your Head”—Medicine’s Silent Epidemic

Sounds about right. To do that, they need patients to be someone else's problem. They can then be that someone else.

Viewpoint: “It’s All in Your Head”—Medicine’s Silent Epidemic

It's yet another person that proposes a solution coming from deep within the same belief system that created the problem in the first place. These kinds of solutions will perpetuate the problem rather solve it. The article has some good parts, such as the recognition that there is a huge...

    MS research versus ME/CFS research

Judging by the abstact titles, there seem to be more subtypes of MS than the usual relapsing-remitting and progressive forms. Maybe we can get MS researchers and clinicians involved in ME research.

How ME/CFS Progresses: A Framework for Research and the Prevention, Treatment, and Rehabilitation in ME/CFS Nacul et al 2019

Neuro-immune would mean related to the brain's immune system. Neuro-immune as used in the ME/CFS community seems to be a buzzword with little substance behind it. We also have no idea how the metabolism changes over time, or whether the currently in some instances contradictory metabolic...

Effectiveness of distant healing for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, 2008, Walach et al

It seems to be worse according to their metrics :D. Maybe Wessely isn't too happy about it but Sharpe and I believe someone else, maybe Moss Morris, tweeted about the lightning process. They seem to view it as further evidence supporting their position.

Effectiveness of distant healing for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, 2008, Walach et al

To avoid misunderstanding , the results are also consistent with biased reporting and no actual improvement in health. A proponent of CBT and LP would choose the other interpretation however. It's probably futile to debate with them as their theories cannot really be shown to be false. Even if...

Effectiveness of distant healing for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, 2008, Walach et al

Nice find. My thoughts are that this might not convince proponents of something like CBT or LP. It might just reinforce their belief that modifying the psychological state of patients can treat CFS. These results aren't inconsistent with it.

    SMILE patient cohorts

Uhm.. yes? It is not optimized for clinical trials though. Forget telling your disease to stop while making gestures and standing in a magical circle. These rituals and modalities are outdated. The most powerful way to change the brain is clearly to give the best score on health related...
