Blog: Lloyd's Fatigue Clinic study asks “are women with CFS ovary-reacting?”

It's sort of a gift really, absolutely carelessly offensive. It's like a parody come to life. I would imagine you might find a lot of allies to denounce this.

Cochrane ME/CFS GET review temporarily withdrawn

I'm kinda taken aback there was an actual apology. Not something you see very often from this camp. Maybe if you start to realise you've spent all day tweeting nonesense about the defining work and sacrifice of an ME hero (and the ongoing heroic work of another one : @Tom Kindlon), you finally...

NICE guideline review: A list of appointees to the ME/CFS Guideline Committee has now been published

Sasha is on point here. I'd love to see @dave30th put the question to NICE.

    Re-Hydration

Everything I drink makes it way back out very quickly. I'm always thirsty and my lips are always cracked. In the morning my BP tanks really badly. My diabetes tests came back negative, but I had a positive tilt table test (without inducement drugs, in about 30 seconds). The NHS has me on 'slow...

    Re-Hydration

I'm interested if anyone has any improved, cheap to make, hydration solutions, compared to Dr Bell's Gookinaid (mix of Salt and Potassium in water). Ideally I'd want something less reliant on lots of sugar. The classic WHO recommendation was 1 tspn salt, 6 tspn of sugar in 1 litre of water...

Livestream Tuller and Hughes 2 Oct 2018 Newry : The PACE Trial: 'One Of The Greatest Scandals

Pro-tip: You can actually sort of crowd-source a transcript if a Video is on Youtube. I don't know if they have a similar feature on Facebook. That way, even if you only transcribe one sentence of the whole talk, it can contribute to the finished transcription which can be downloaded once complete.

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

I think it can be argued (by someone smarter than me), that if patient trust is high, they may be unaware of harm. So the ability to say there was no harm is not a statement that can be made with confidence. There may be some first hand documents of harm submitted to Myhill's GMC case against...

I can honestly say, I don't know what happens next here. These psychiatrists have had the freedom to lead on this disease without accountability for decades. They're used to having access to power and the ear of the media. Working amongst colleagues of a like mind and with the favour of...

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

One thing I find confusing, is the claim that PACE only studied CFS. I assumed ME and CFS in a medical and legal sense are (regrettably) the same diagnosis - at least I thought so based on the ICD codes. Not that newspapers are the best source, but so often the line is, CFS also known as ME. I...

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

When researchers are politically, commerically and systemically involved in the way patients are treated and that involvement has a negative impact which has caused significant suffering and distress, a patient should at least feel entitled to some constructive anger. The issues with PACE and...

My conversation on twitter with cfs research and prof. Michael Sharpe

Bias, even if it existed in this case, is irrelevent to a certain extent. If you find an irrefutable technical flaw in a study, it is a flaw regardless of the motivation for doing so. Also if PACE found CBT+GET to be harmful, but significant numbers of patients were claiming to have recovered...

UK 21 June 2018 | 3-hour ME debate in Westminster Hall, secured by Carol Monaghan

I don't think I need to point out the fact that 'shit just got real'. Expect those involved in PACE to come out in full force on this one. Expect targeted press releases on the day of the debate, patient/advocate even Scientist/Academic smears. Every angry or careless tweet/forum comment ever...

    The ME Show

I'm so pleased to see this start up. I tried doing a podcast for a bit, but I couldn't keep up with it and it wasn't very well produced. It's awesome to have a proper broadcaster put together a show like this. For those that are able to tolerate sound, I think it will mean a lot to have a voice...

Guardian piece on ME by Nick Duerden, mentions PACE 'controversy', includes quote from Chalder. Bit of a nothing article.

If Chalder wanted to do patients a real favour, she could write a letter to the DWP on the basis of that quote there, instructing them that ME/CFS is a lifelong condition and allow people on ESA/PIP to get 10 year gaps between their psychological torture sessions at the local ATOS miracle...

    A Competitive UK Research Strategy

So another day, another...shopping bag study. I think in the UK we're overdue a vision for research going forward. There's plenty of critques of research, but I haven't seen a lot of competiting plans showing research necessities and opportunites for expansion. Moreover I think it would be...

    Travelling tips anyone? (car)

Some questions for you:- What time of day do you travel? What's the journey like, is it mostly flat and straight, or are there lots of hills and turns? Is there often a lot of traffic (lots of speeding up and slowing down)? I get pretty bad Orthostatic Intolerance type symptoms on car...

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

If you think like a Psychiatrist invested in the BPS theory, I would of assumed you'd actually be extremely interested in what people 'choose to do'. In fact it seems like data to that effect is essential to measuring the effects of a 'behavioural therapy'. After all, people also 'choose' how to...

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

To be frank. Anyone could make an Anonymous Twitter handle and say something stupid - be they a real or fake patient for that matter. It's a measure of power and influence that instances of such behavior are able to be attributed to a 'group' of 'activists' who 'campaign' against 'Science'...
