Can physical assessment techniques aid diagnosis in people with CFS/ME? A diagnostic accuracy study, 2017, Perrin et al

This was pointed to several times here, and it was what I was spontaneously thinking. It's quite easy to decide "ME - yes or no?" (you could just guess) or to say "sick - yes or no; if yes - which illness?" In my opinion, this makes the study a bit worthless. (I hope nobody feels attacked.)...

Can physical assessment techniques aid diagnosis in people with CFS/ME? A diagnostic accuracy study, 2017, Perrin et al

In Germany (well, my experience), these tests are only performed by neurologists. Don't know exactly why.

A general thread on the PACE trial!

I absolutely agree. But so powerful, that even (real) scientists won't speak and criticize non-scientific work that may have wide range influences? In fact, I would say the increasing psycho influence is also bad for real science. Or don't real scientists complain because major funders are...

Can anybody explain what this means?

A general thread on the PACE trial!

I'm reading the protocol for PACE, https://bmcneurol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1471-2377-7-6 Is it a false feeling that the sections about "Advert Events" sound a bit...well...strange? That sounds very subjective, and it sounds as if the danger of having the opinion of "the patient...

A general thread on the PACE trial!

Thanks, @Esther12 The NFS guideline doesn't cite PACE (but lots of other papers about effectiveness of exercise in ME), a Degam guideline "Fatigue" does. How's it possible a guideline is accepted, and even accepted as evidence based, if it is grounded only on papers of ONE area, here...

A general thread on the PACE trial!

How would you proceed with documents that cite the PACE Trial and papers that, again, cite the PACE trial, and that cite (psychological) papers which claim to show psychotherapy and activity (often exercise) are helpful in CFS? I read a guideline about "non-specific functional and somatic...

I would be willing to translate (as is possible for me)

    B12/Folic Acid and D3/K2 Supplementation

Cyanocobalamin, as I have learned, is the synthetic form of B12, i.e. its molecular formula deviates from that of Adenosyl-, Methyl- and Hydroxocobalamin, which are the forms in our body. Yet, it is said the body can change cyanocobalamin into the working molecule. Hydroxocob. is the form we...

    Melatonin

You get Melatonin e.g. from Biovea, too. It should ship to UK. It was my "last option" if anything should fail. But I go better with the "retard pills". @mods: If I'm not allowed to say that, please delete my post.

Dare to hope... what amazingly great thing might happen in S4ME's first year?

@Barry I was meaning people with ME. The general population will most often lack the interest. That's understandable. I'm gonna give it a try in a German speaking forum. Let's see :)

As a psychologist I see the fantasy of neoliberal values having a devastating effect on mental healt

@healthforall You speak from my heart. I am really touched :emoji_cry: I heard a talk of a Professor who analyses how the "western" system works. And he concluded: Realistically, if one looks at history and how our world is today, one would have to despair. All that we have is hope. That...

Dare to hope... what amazingly great thing might happen in S4ME's first year?

I'll try that in a "small circle", but I'm not sure whether the forum I think about will be open. They are pretty "pro psycho stuff", even in the ME subforum. I was also thinking about something "bigger", like writing to officials. This will need some pre-organization.

Dare to hope... what amazingly great thing might happen in S4ME's first year?

Hi @Esther12, thanks :) Maybe NONE?! Okay, more realistic: almost none in Germany. Just my impression. All I learned was from an English forum. Papers are in English. I shall search for German material.

Dare to hope... what amazingly great thing might happen in S4ME's first year?

@Esther12 Is there anything one can do actively? I came across people in a German ME forum who didn't know what PACE is :jawdrop: If I look to UK (or even US) I get a bit sad because there is so much going on there. (A happy sad, because I am happy for you and sad for me :) )I don't know how...

    Question concerning XMRV

Hi @Jonathan Edwards, Nah, give up science? But thanks for clarifying. I wondered about the reviewers "in my time". Those who write the papers often work for long times in that field, about a certain topic. Reviewers are also frome the same field, but often work on completely different...

    Question concerning XMRV

Hi @Esther12, thanks! I thought about it, and I discussed this also with a Chemist (who is no expert in this area, but saw electrophoresis more often than I did). I wasn't sure with the scales in the pictures and possible data sets. He told me the data set is the picture itself, there's nothing...

    Question concerning XMRV

Another question: I read somewhere (don't know where anymore :( ) that it is common to "send" virus DNA/RNA, that shall be used for vaccines, through mouse cells (e.g. brain cells?). Is this correct? If so, shouldn't it be quite common to find any virus-mouse rests in the human?
