Periodic Paralysis, myotonia, channelopathy and ME

This is interesting, indeed. @Webdog. When reading this, I realize again how badly I was checked. I hope this can be changed some time soon.

Sorry if this is trivial: Did you check Myasthenia Gravis? Didn't hear of AFM before, so thank you for the info!

Phase III Rituximab Trial - News

Sounds not so good to me... :( "The sick no longer wish...[CBT, GET]" (sounds like patients are little children who should get reasonable at last) "Tired patients..." My opinion may be unjust, then I excuse.

    B6 deficiency and intolerance

Hi everyone! I have vitamin B6 deficiency whilst blood levels are normal/elevated (even without substitution) and I cannot substitute B6 due to intolerance (even small amounts lead to trembling and higher heart rate). I have also low alkaline phosphatase. Has anyone an idea what this could be...

Condition among athletes with similarities to ME?

Did you mean this, @Marco? http://file.scirp.org/Html/2-1320100_36970.htm

Condition among athletes with similarities to ME?

I found this: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9741601 But it's about only one cyclist, and the authors conclude exercise problems stem from deconditioning. :emoji_open_mouth: That's something else about CFS in athletes...

Periodic Paralysis, myotonia, channelopathy and ME

Hi @Jenny TipsforME, Thank you for posting all this info! I would be very glad if it were possible for you to bring info here. But I can understand it's too exhaustive. What I observe is that after ca 10min of speaking my voice gets hoarse and my throat hurts until I can only whisper. Seems...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

That's actually what I thought when I went through museums about dinosaurs. I read all the stories and see all the findings, and I just don't see why the stories should mirror reality - I mean, they could; and they couldn't. It seems to me that some people find some puzzle pieces and - due to...

Periodic Paralysis, myotonia, channelopathy and ME

@Jenny TipsforME Thanks for bringing that topic up. I was wondering about that, too. I remember there was a big article on Health Rising. But then - nothing. I somehow get moreband more the feeling it might be about names, at last. :( @Valentijn I think the topic is still interesting...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

I didn't mean it in a romantical manner. I think there is a reason why two human beings are attracted sexually, and I think the reason is good match of genes. (Not implicating a good match on a personal/materialistic level.) I'd say this "sexual attraction, gene matching" happens unconsciously...

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

I have to admit that doesn't hold for me. But it worked someday, so... :) Honestly, I would doubt that's true for all cases. But I may misunderstand you - if I read "complex intelligent thought" I imagine myself sitting around, pondering about the pros and cons about a man. If I fell in love...

Periodic Paralysis, myotonia, channelopathy and ME

Thank you, Jenny. I take ca. 3g potassium-citrate daily (ca. 1g potassium), and for me it helps, I think. (WHO's recommendation is 6-7g daily if I remember correctly, and I don't eat that with my food, I am certain.) I had no problems with it. I know it is said potassium is dangerous - and it...

Periodic Paralysis, myotonia, channelopathy and ME

I don't know how you can avoid potassium... But still, I don't understand what would happen if potassium is supplemented. Let's assume someone doesn't know he has PP and takes potassium/sodium - what could happen?

Periodic Paralysis, myotonia, channelopathy and ME

I understand it this way: a positive genetic test doesn't necessarily mean an illness will break out. But if there are symptoms, the test would ensure the diagnosis. Did I understand you correctly?

Sickness behaviour – useful concept or psycho-humbug?

Thanks, @chrisb, I already looked online and understood the idea. Your reference to Gould and Lewontin helped hereby.

Periodic Paralysis, myotonia, channelopathy and ME

Do you know how many % are detected via genetic tests?

Periodic Paralysis, myotonia, channelopathy and ME

Thank you, @duncan! If a person with PP would supplement potassium (or sodium in any form), what would happen?
  18. Inara

Periodic Paralysis, myotonia, channelopathy and ME

@Jenny TipsforME, would you say Periodic Paralyses and ATS might be found via genome testing? I suppose there are also cases where no gene changes are found but the illness is present?

What's a spandrel? Only get a translation that doesn't make sense (sorry for spoiling your joke).
