Trial By Error: The School Absence Study, Revisited (Crawley/SMILE)

Fine for me, @TiredSam, I hope I won't forget (if so, just correct me again :) )

    Guideline "Tiredness" by DEGAM

In Tuller's blog, a BMJ guideline is mentioned. Unfortunately, it's behind a paywall. But an "older" version obviously contained this: http://www.virology.ws/2017/11/13/trial-by-error-the-surprising-new-bmj-best-practice-guide/ But here, he says this has been deleted in a newer version...

Trial By Error: The School Absence Study, Revisited (Crawley/SMILE)

As a doctor she is simply not allowed to leak any patient data - or use it, no matter for what. If she is a "school doctor" she isn't allowed to do so, too. The same holds for the school itself. I am quite shocked. In the end, this really might be a legal case, if the pledge of secrecy was...

Trial By Error: The School Absence Study, Revisited (Crawley/SMILE)

I see. Is that legal in the UK? The school provided sensitive data to a stranger (it's not important that the school didn't directly provide the data; it did so indirectly: By inviting strangers and pre-selected persons (pre-defined selection criterium: missing time) it is easy to link the...

Trial By Error: The School Absence Study, Revisited (Crawley/SMILE)

I don't get it. What of the following happened? Point of time 0: Crawley has her "research" idea. She wants to collect school data. Point of time 1: Crawley collects data and evaluates it. She finds a certain percentage of students with a certain amount of missing time and contacts the...

Trial By Error: The School Absence Study, Revisited (Crawley/SMILE)

Did I understand it correctly? School data was collected and evaluated. Why was it allowed to collect school data in the first place? You would need the consent from the school attendee or a parent. So you would need to ask a certain amount of people from a school if they agree that their...

    Guideline "Tiredness" by DEGAM

I heard that, too. But as a member I can't choose the person who is assigned to me. For our purpose, this might be different. Hm...how to do that? Maybe a lawyer can be found. I am collecting information. Do you mean doctors get points for going to their ME seminars? Now, what can we...

Interesting thoughts, @Chris, thanks for sharing them! Some take-aways for me.

No trouble, @duncan, I didn't read anything negative in your posts, just helpful hints. Today we had stormy rain. That's a downer. I like snow, and then the spring, yes :)

@duncan, that's not a very bright prospective :( let's see what I can do. It is planned to visit a neurological clinic for a detailed check...

    Does anybody know this?

Hi @duncan, I also thought briefly about periodic paralysis. But I had the feeling after reading the PP thread it doesn't fit. I am waiting for genetic test results, so maybe that may bring clarity in this respect. The other thing is: how to find a specialist?

    Does anybody know this?

@Wonko: Ah, now I get it! Language problems :) you mean epilepsy seizures, yes? It's really quite interesting to read about your experience with this. So, sorry if that takes longer today, what I explained reminded you of your "early stage" seizures (epilepsy seizure, TIA, stroke)? I had an...

Ah, I understand! Oh. :( Yes, I want to know, too. And although my GP is near perfect I don't expect too much. Absolutely!!

    Does anybody know this?

Yes, maybe there is a way to look at the sleep without a sleep lab. I have gut problems. Over the holidays I didn't eat that healthy, plus exhaustion which worsens the gut problems. To wake during sleep due to pain is not entirely new for me, so that wasn't a big surprise.

    Does anybody know this?

I am sorry, @Wonko, my brain... What you describe sounds like something on it's own - you say it's a seizure. Do you mean a real "stroke-like" seizure, e.g. something like transient ischemic attack ? Or maybe I don't understand you completely. Do you have a "theory" to why it happens and what...

    Does anybody know this?

I am already more sensitive and watch for any symptoms that might indicate the occurence of an "attack". So far, I am "attack free" since one week.

    Does anybody know this?

Exhaustion and a seizure/stroke/migraine attack (like mentioned above) don't exclude each other. I.e. it could be a seizure caused by exhaustion. Yes! :)
