The influence of the Cochrane review on GET

There are currently no national guidelines for ME/CFS in Sweden, nor any ME/CFS insurance medicine decision guidelines. There are very few regional ME/CFS guidelines. One of them, Region Kronoberg, references Cochrane indirectly: There might be more examples, but nothing comes to mind at the...

Very problematic book published in Sweden this week :wtf::sick::mad: "Morden i Bjärred - och andra sanna berättelser om föräldrar som mördat sina barn" [The murders in Bjärred -- and other true stories about parents who murder their children] by Elisabet Höglund. As some of you maybe remember...

    News from Scandinavia

#MEvårdsaknas is a new Swedish advocacy campaign demanding (better) medical care for people with ME. The igniting spark was the recent news that the plans to open a specialist clinic in the north of Sweden have been scrapped "because of the financial situation" (or, in other words, the...

Researcher Interactions Question collection thread for S4ME Q&A with Dr Michael VanElzakker

I'd like to know Dr VanElzakker's thoughts on the ethical aspects of intentionally provoking PEM and other symptoms in order to study them, please. For example, what have their discussions been like regarding the Exercise Challenge Study? Could he also please explain what the exercise challenge...

Sweden: Seminars for doctors about ME and chronic fatigue Sept 12th and Oct 2nd

It's actually a good thing in this context :) They are educating people about the differences between chronic fatigue as in the psych diagnosis burnout (stress related exhaustion/fatigue/depression), and ME as defined in the Canadian consensus criteria. In Sweden burnout and ME are viewed as...

3rd Annual Community Symposium on the Molecular Basis of ME/CFS at Stanford University, sponsored by OMF, 7th Sept 2019

Did anyone catch what Jonas Bergquist said about Bragée ME-Center in relation to the ME/CFS Collaborative Research Center in Uppsala, Sweden? I'm asking because I was very sad to see the names of several BPS proponents in this screenshot of a slide, shared on Twitter :( For example Britt...

The Mind-Body Syndrome Study (2019) Maroti et al

Personally, I believe they made that choice a very long time ago :( If you look at their actions and choices from when they first opened the center until today, it paints a pretty clear picture... Same if you look at how they talk about us, compared to what they say directly to us.

The Mind-Body Syndrome Study (2019) Maroti et al

Very "interesting" comment... Should be easy enough for Bragée to bring this to KI's attention, if they wanted to, especially seeing that one of KI's bps ME researchers is now working for and doing bps research at Bragée ME-center as well... Why would Bragée even hire Olsson in the...

The Mind-Body Syndrome Study (2019) Maroti et al

Hmm... Well, earlier this year Bragée ME-center hired bps proponent Gunnar Olsson to work for them and to run his bps ACT study (gradually increased activity regardless of symptoms, changing unhelpful beliefs and avoidance behaviours etc) there, using their ME patients. Olsson has collaborated...

The Mind-Body Syndrome Study (2019) Maroti et al

They talk about it a bit in some of their earlier ME/CFS studies, for example in their alexithymia study (full-text available here). They claim that "difficulties with emotional awareness in CFS have been related to lower self-reported social functioning" and that it "has been suggested that a...

The Mind-Body Syndrome Study (2019) Maroti et al

I'm sad to see that Bragée Rehab (home of Bragée ME-center) are endorsing this study. I wonder if they will be actively encouraging their ME patients to take part, besides this post on Facebook? This is a big worry because of Maroti's apparent lack of understanding of our disease, and his habit...
