Public The big fat lie: Britons eat 50% more than they say

Couldn't find the booklet I had in relative nutritional values but I found this PDF. It discusses the Historical Changes in the Mineral Content of Fruit and Veg grown 50 years apart. Document appears to be from 1997...

Public The big fat lie: Britons eat 50% more than they say

I have a feeling it was based on tests done by the govt on veg at the time and today......what I read gave actual percentages of different nutrients in a given veg. I'll try to remember where I saw it. ETA - I've had a quick look but can't see it in the bookshelves. A lot of books are double...

Public The big fat lie: Britons eat 50% more than they say

I read somewhere that even the nutritional value of veg has declined considerably since the 30s. So to get the same value you would need to eat huge amounts more.

    Skin crawling/formication

Yeah. I get this too. It's horrible/annoying and easily mispronounced! It get's worse when I relapse, my iron levels drop or when I need to incease my thyroid med dose.

No worries! Please don't put yourself to any trouble looking stuff up - it was just a casual thought.

Public The big fat lie: Britons eat 50% more than they say

This is an interesting point. I think exercise, as in doing a gym workout, doesn't use that much more than say a couple of hours of rigorous housework. But I suppose if you were in a job on your feet & moving about all day then you'll have a fairly steady calorie burn throughout the day. Also...

The HOME study - Michael Sharpe s CBT for the elderly

It's scary things haven't improved much since the 60s then. My dad was involved in an industrial accident and hospitalized. A nurse tried to bully him into an injection and was quite abusive when he wouldn't let her inject him until she told him what was in the syringe. Just as well. She...

I was thinking in terms of stabilizers, flavour enhancers - additives! Finally remembered the word!

The HOME study - Michael Sharpe s CBT for the elderly

Actually, in geriatrics confusion, depression and anxiety are often caused by physical disease. I have met people who have been convinced that an elderly relative is developing dementia and been really alarmed, only to discover that it was a urinary tract infection all along.

Public The big fat lie: Britons eat 50% more than they say

Hmmm, so they say. I know that the cost of fresh fruit and veggies is really quite high. We tend not to eat processed food here much (Invisible Man's trip down memory lane aside). A lot of this so called cheap food is processed food. You could buy a ready made lasagne more cheaply than the...

And then on the other hand we have shrinkflation: Though to be fair I've noticed this more when the Invisible Man bought his favourite, childhood chocolate bar recently and whinged about the size of it.

Public The big fat lie: Britons eat 50% more than they say

This is where I'm not so sure. In the UK at least, we work quite long hours. That, to my mind, doesn't help. By the time folk commute home and get the dinner on etc. there's often very little time for anything else. It's a whole pattern of life: A high number of people work in cities. Many...

Are they really using the acronym YUMS or is that you being tongue in cheek? If they really are then: YUMS?????? FFS!

PIP claimants - email your experiences of the process to Laura Pidcock MP before Westminster debate next Wednesday

Completely agree - that was just a tactic. However, I was choosing my words carefully - I don't want to give anyone ammunition to say we promote benefit fraud or being less than truthful, especially as so many of us claim benefits. I would go as far as to say that most genuine benefit...

I notice they have neglected to mention the many scientists and researchers who have criticised it.
