Which computer for someone with Parkinson's Disease

Decent article. However, a desktop may be less practical for those who spend periods bedbound. I think ME/CFS is less "one size fits all" than most disabling chronic illnesses. Every situation can be unique. A laptop which can be hooked up to an external monitor and keyboard at the desk, but...

Psychiatry Advisor: Addressing depression in ME/CFS, 2018, Cindy Lampner

I've often observed simplistic doctor thinking like this: profound loss of function + labs are normal = depression Because depression can cause profound loss of functioning and normal labs indicate no underlying medical condition. They aren't interested in another explanation.

Overcoming Barriers to Access Care - Hosted by Bateman Horne Center - Wed 2 Oct 2019

It was rewarding to hear Dr. Bateman acknowledge the improvements in UpToDate's ME/CFS content.

JAMA -"Advances in understanding the Pathophysiology of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" by Anthony Komaroff

If UpToDate is any indication (Komaroff is editor), then the belief remains that GET is helpful for a subset of CFS patients. Even though PACE has been largely rejected, and the potential for harm in some patients is recognized. From my conversations with Healthwise, there are anecdotal reports...

Trial By Error: Kaiser Permanente Changes Course

This is going to take a few years, unfortunately. Baby steps at this point. Kaiser Permanente NorCal doctors were offered a ME/CFS training (not mandatory) and all have been given a written update on ME/CFS. The goal, as I understand it, is to eventually fold ME/CFS into the existing integrated...

Open Stanford (Montoya) study “Exercise and Immune Profiling in ME/CFS”

Interesting. I didn’t get a report from the cardiologist, but would certainly be interested to see one. Following the bicycle exercise, it took about 60 hours for a full PEM crash. 60 hours was beyond what the study recorded, unfortunately. Recovery to baseline following the bicycle exercise...

Google bans advertising for speculative and experimental medical treatments

Good to hear. I was also thinking about the numerous Lightning Process "recovery" YouTube videos, of which there is apparently no shortage.

Go a step further and ban YouTube videos that are little more than ads for speculative medical treatments.

Modern-Day Relics of Psychiatry, 2019, Tripathi et al

UpToDate.com refers to neurasthenia as a historical term for ME/CFS. This is what doctors reference. Shocking really. Then again, Komaroff is the editor, so perhaps not so surprising.

Problematic training courses - please add

Came across this CME and recent Seattle medical conference presentation by Dr. Peng Thim Fam for the medical education company Pri-Med. I don't have an account, so I wasn't able to see the actual CME, but I read through the slideshow and FAQ. Pri-Med conference presentation on CFS, June 21...

A nanoelectronics-blood-based diagnostic biomarker for ME/CFS (2019) Esfandyarpour, Davis et al

Thanks for the article. Perhaps related to a request yesterday to return for yet another blood draw at Stanford. I don't know anything more, however. :cookie: (I always eat a cookie after a blood draw) Edit: The blood draw turned out instead to be for a metabolic trap study.

JAMA -"Advances in understanding the Pathophysiology of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" by Anthony Komaroff

In the 1999, Komaroff delivered a presentation to the Medical Board of California, recommending GET and CBT for "CFS". It's still on their website. I've asked both the Medical Board of California and Komaroff to update the "CFS" content on the website, or to remove it. Didn't get a reply...

JAMA -"Advances in understanding the Pathophysiology of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" by Anthony Komaroff

Komaroff is editor for UpToDate's ME/CFS section, which as recently as 2018 conflated ME/CFS with fatigue, failed to recognize the methodological flaws of PACE, and recommended GET/CBT. UpToDate has improved somewhat, but still had not completely rejected PACE as of my subscription expiration...

    ME = Late onset Autism?

Dr. Bell also writes in the same article that "not all children describe post-exertional malaise". Some only describe "activity limitation". And that problems may start early in childhood, "but not that the whole symptom pattern was present." Edit: Pediatric ME/CFS definitely needs more study.
