    Covid-19 vaccination experiences

I had my first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine over 3 weeks ago. Within 12 hours, I experienced transient limb paralysis and became unable to even sit upright, let alone stand or walk. The headache was akin to the most intense migraine I have ever had, accompanied by nausea and retching. It...

'We're absolutely appalled' say mesh campaigners over NICE decision - ITV news Apr 2019

Possibly from the same team, though. They see many patients from outside of Germany for revision of hernia mesh procedures gone wrong, or hernia repair. The surgeon that I saw comes to the UK once a month to operate here, but her male colleague works almost exclusively from the German hospital.

'We're absolutely appalled' say mesh campaigners over NICE decision - ITV news Apr 2019

I developed a serious "hidden" hernia early last year. Five months and 7 NHS doctors later, they still hadn't found it and suggested that my pain was imaginary, or that I had constipation (like I wouldn't know!). I privately sought out the German hernia surgeon who repairs hernias without...

Professor Crawley BPSU study - Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) Severe children Feb 2019 - 2020

I agree, @Tilly. A child with severe ME/CFS would not be attending a GP's surgery, and gone are the days of doctors making house calls unless in an emergency. The definition for school attendance is pure nonsense. For example, as long as the child attends hospital school for more than one...

Professor Crawley BPSU study - Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) Severe children Feb 2019 - 2020

"The fatigue is made worse by activity and is not relived by rest." Don't know about anyone else, but I relive my fatigue every day, regardless of rest. If fatigue is not "relived" by rest, doesn't that mean that it goes away with rest, and therefore by definition the patient would not have...

Inversion tables, Jen Brea and feeling better by being Batman!

I have found yoga, especially the inverted poses, to be helpful. https://tirisulayoga.com/yoga-and-the-vagus-nerve/ However, use of the inversion table made me feel unwell (result was similar to my Tilt Table test, although not quite so dramatic as I was able to disembark before I got to the...

2016 Psychology Today article discusses overcoming CFS through dealing with stressful situations from past.

Well, you know that somewhat crude saying about "opinions" . . . :cautious:

Interesting on many levels, a bbc documentary on shell shock, also a brief section with Simon Wessely

. . . and completely ignoring the fact that the face of warfare has altered almost beyond recognition since the trenches of WW1. I saw the documentary and Wessely implied that "flashbacks" only came into being as a symptom when film and TV arrived on the scene. So, prior to this "cultural...

Blog: Lloyd's Fatigue Clinic study asks “are women with CFS ovary-reacting?”

I had one of my ovaries removed last month. How soon should I feel 50% less fatigue? Anyone?

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

Me, too. I sometimes describe it to non-pwME as being put through a mangle, or similar to that point when you are having your blood pressure taken and, just before the cuff is released, it becomes horribly uncomfortable, but all over.

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

@Adrian, the same nurses who took down my medical history at admission were the same ones who made no allowances for my ME symptoms whilst I was in their care (I switched wards, so this occurred twice). Not that I expect "special treatment", just for them not to make my stay any more miserable...

Michael Sharpe skewered by @JohntheJack on Twitter

Same here, @Trish. If I ever use the term "ME" during a GP appointment, I get the feeling that he is resisting the urge to roll his eyes, and he usually manages to slip "CFS" into the conversation in a subtle attempt to correct my error. The last couple of times I have been to hospital...

Is this allergy or something else?

@dangermouse, I have the same reactions, too. I rarely leave the house and so I don't have the issue with large stores and supermarkets these days. However, at home I am surrounded by woods and oilseed rape fields, and for some reason my symptoms are very much worse this year (usually we have...

(Not a recommendation) BMJ Opinion: Missing the psychosocial diagnosis—a form of institutionalised malpractice

(Not a recommendation) BMJ Opinion: Missing the psychosocial diagnosis—a form of institutionalised malpractice

Hmm, it was precisely because I was a young female with those symptoms that I was continuously dismissed by cardiologists as an attention-seeking anxiety case. It literally took decades before I was finally diagnosed with POTS, by which time I was too sick to drive, hold down a job and was...

Arms hurting from tablet - what to do ?

@Dechi, I use an ibeani: Cheaper versions are available on Ebay, but I wanted the one with the George Stubbs print, so went for the original version (I also like this one in the image above, with the dachshunds). I wasn't sure that I would make that much use of it at first, but it has been...

Esther Crawley's presentations (excluding the 2017 TEDx talk)

Oxford English definition of "post-truth": "Relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief". Won't this mean that Crawley will be on the wrong side of this debate, given that she bases...
