Posting with the hope that someone here might find this article illuminating/interesting and possibly discussion worthy. http://eiko-fried.com/all-mental-disorders-are-brain-disorders-not/ Also, the link within the text to this: https://mindhacks.com/2017/09/19/why-we-need-to-get-better-at-critiquing-diagnosis/ might prove worthy of some discussion as to what is happening in psychiatry. PS I'm not very creative with tags so if you think of any that might be useful just let me know
One thing I have discovered over the last few years is that my own lifelong severe depression (now gone) was mainly caused by less than optimal nutrient levels and by thyroid hormone levels that were too low. But I've never seen any suggestions from psychiatrists that nutrients should be optimised or the thyroid should be checked (and treated if necessary) before they dish out addictive, emotion-numbing, brain-fogging meds to their patients. I seriously believe that psychiatrists are smug, cruel, self-satisfied sadists.
I can't say I am overly impressed with psychiatry but for some time now I have been quite thankful not to live in the UK because I think what you have said pretty much sums up my opinion of the #UKpsychlobby.
Years ago, I knew an old doctor who had done trials in a local Borstal where one group ate what they chose and the other followed a careful nutrition plan which led to astounding improvements in behaviour. Just another piece of research which landed in the dust and was forgotten.
