Thousands of Studies Begin to Paint New Picture of Chronic Fatigue “Many doctors still don't know that there are over 9,000 studies in the published scientific literature that show that there is something wrong in the body,” Komaroff lamented. “They order their usual tests, the usual tests come back normal, and they say there's nothing wrong.” Unfortunately, that’s not a problem that is limited to chronic fatigue syndrome. “Any time a person walks into a doctor's office with an odd collection of symptoms the doctor doesn't recognize it - can't figure it out - there is the possibility that the doctor will not respond in a healthy way, and instead say to the patient ‘There's really nothing wrong with you,’” Komaroff said. Komaroff says that doctors, and the medical system as a whole, need to trust patients and be willing to do the hard work to figure out what is really wrong. That effort is just beginning to pay off for those with chronic fatigue syndrome.
