The Clinical Post Covid Society (CPCS) is asking clinicians, researchers and health services commissioners – to kindly join them for the annual conference in Birmingham on 26th March 2025.

The Clinical Post Covid Society is joint initiative between NHS England (NHSE) and the British Society of Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine (BSPRM). It is a professional society for clinicians and researchers working in Long Covid and other post-viral conditions.

The ME Association is a member of the stakeholder group, with Russell Fleming, MEA Head of Project Development attending meetings regularly.

the conference programme actually calls it:
POST ACUTE INFECTION CONDITIONS (PAIC) ANNUAL CONFERENCE PROGRAMME
I can see only one reference to ME/CFS on the listings:
”Harriet Campbell (Presented by Jo Bond-Kendall): Clinician perspectives on the sil and differences between Long COVID and ME/CFS in Children and Young People
Surveillance Project|”

& the first session is
“LONG COVID AND OTHER POST INFECTION ILLNESS IN 2025: THE UNRECOGNISED PANDEMIC IN ADULTS, CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE”

It is a professional society for clinicians and researchers working in Long Covid and other post-viral conditions. The ME Association is a member of the stakeholder group and Russell Fleming (MEA Head of Project Development) attended the first meeting yesterday. It was good to share many of the same concerns in regard to the need for better medical education and improved secondary care services with colleagues who were supporting people with Long Covid. There was a genuine feeling that we need to come together to improve healthcare for all. We discussed the trend towards merging or developing combined ME/CFS and Long Covid specialist services in England and Wales and recognised the need to bring the patient voice to healthcare commissioners and service developers. Future meetings will build upon these themes and the group's concerns and recommendations will be raised with the clinical leadership team.

There is some comment on the conference here. Mainly on the overlapping with BACME and the Bath Clinic with Jo Bond Kendall. Long Covid charities look pretty involved with the CPCS.

Same old crap. A few competent professionals trying to solve this, mixed with a bunch of interlopers who can't quit failing. Until something pushes things forward, none of this will change. The rehab cheerleaders obviously will never stop pushing their business, it's all they have and they're not even interested in facts.

It's small in all this, but it's still somewhat funny that most of the original gang are still active, minus Peter White, and yet they are total non-factors, they may as well all have been dead years ago. They made this paradigm what it is, this should technically be their moment of glory, their time under the spotlight, and they are totally irrelevant. Wessely made his career on this, and despite his huge influence, everyone seems content to pretend that he was never involved. He even got some award lately where his accomplishments were listed, and his main body of work was left out. Even though it's still massively influential over millions of lives.

Which says everything. How everyone clearly understands that this ideology is worthless garbage, but the profession is too broken and utterly lacking in leadership and accountability that it doesn't matter. They built a tradition of going through some motions for reasons, and they will keep doing those ritual motions until money stops flowing to them. And so far, the main result has been more money flowing to them, so that's not about to happen.

It really is the same old crap.

A good point about the old movers and shakers. However much they railled against just criticism, they won't pop their heads above the parapet. God knows what happened to Esther Crawley but it does seem some are happy to align themselves know with the new Long Covid Charities. Maybe they just don't know about them? Gregorowski, BACME & the awful Terry Segal just signed the Long Covid Kids petition.

From a strictly strategic perspective, there is probably value here to the old "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer". I really don't want any of them to take the lead on anything, but if all they do is sign on to demands for more, and they are one of many, it's probably preferable to them scheming on their own behind the scenes, as seems to be happening in Scandinavia.

We don't know how differently they speak in private settings friendly to the product they sell, but they always moderate their claims when the audience is actually informed, especially when there is a public record of it. It's when they "wormtongue" their way in private that they can get away with selling the worst of their lies, which they can't back up in public.

It would definitely be far preferable if they walked into the sea and never came back, but the alternative is the secret scheming where they sell bridges to nowhere to people who badly want to believe that there's good value in it. This has never worked out for us.

That is, as long as all they do is sign on. There is no point in having them involved in anything beyond that, they have nothing at all to contribute.

Yes, there definitely might be strategic value in keeping enemies closer. The ME Association are members of the CPCS & likely take the same tact.

I suppose it's whether the charities see them as an 'enemy' and have the discrimination to see what they are really about? The ME Association have been around the block a few times so are likely to be unduly influenced.

What they say in private & secret scheming though is dangerous, so no access at all to them is not a great alternative.

It's how much the social and internal connections influence the charities and how they position themselves might be an issue for patients? Or not depending on their skill of dancing with the devil!

Yeah, that's the downside of this, it depends on them being savvy enough to do it right. So far this hasn't happened much, and there is still a lot of very weird collaboration between some of the associations and a few of the ideologues.

Ugh. Depending on others is awful. I hate everything about it so much.
