Having difficulty keeping my head straight (litterally)

    Weird thing happening today, and I’m freaking out a bit. I thought abput meningitis but the issue is not really stiffness, it’s more that my head feels very heavy and that my meck muscles are too weak to keep it straight.

    I had less sleep for the past two days, my two kids were home and each woke me up at different times during the night for teo days in a row. But still, this is not the first time I only sleep 5-6 hours.

    I also had a viral infection that turned into a bronchitis and aggravated my chronic sinusitis in the last 2-3 weeks. Now it’s better though. Still taking my inhalers but should stop in a few days. I had a migraine most of the day (left temporal side).

    Anybody has this weird thing going on ? It’s been like that all day, getting worse now. I’m not in bed but I’m resting in my recliner. Putting my head down relieves the slowly building pain.

    Perfectly "normal". Happens to me from time to time. I have never really given it much thought, but I'd assume that the reason it's impossible to keep your head up is, as you surmise, is that your neck muscles are too weak to do so right now.

    It generally goes away within a few days, or does so for me. Until then lying down and or using a shoulder and or pillows/cushions helps, a bit. The trick appears to be don't leave your head unsupported, or move it much, as muscles that weak won't offer much protection and are easily upset.

    The fun bit is if they start to spasm and you have head snaps - that's a little ouchy.

    ETA - and when you need to move your head, hands are more productive than trying to use non functioning neck muscles, just place an appropriately positioned hand against the side of your head and push gently until your head is oriented the way you wish, and maybe keep it there, this ends up hurting less, and works better.
