Well, I should feel better already, as reading that abstract was akin to sticking pins in myself.

I was recently wondering whether to inject 1 cm long catgut segments into myself whilst burning some dried mugwort onto my body, so this is very useful. Thanks very much.

Is there in some parts, of the world, a tradition of publishing spoof papers at this time of year?

No. The Chinese government is very supportive of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and it wouldn't surprise me if we saw an increase in ME studies from China testing TCM remedies.

An article broadly discussing their support of TCM, https://www.nature.com/news/china-t...onal-medicine-despite-safety-concerns-1.23038

i read in a detailed tcm book that a particular potion's recipe was incorrect for a thousand years. a mistaken hanzi character was used, but it was not corrected. it was just repeated. so i hope they are careful.

"CFS of spleen-kidney yang deficiency syndrome" makes it seem that there is a syndrome, s-k y d s, of which one symptom they are discussing.

otoh, they could be discussing a disease, of which one subtype is s-k y d s.

I was under the impression that China officially had zero cases of CFS (or ME or ME/CFS or CFS/ME) so presumably the thing described as CFS in this paper is not what even Wessely would describe as CFS, let alone us.

    If that makes any sense?

Maybe they were dealing with the unofficial cases of CFS.
