    I have mixed feelings about this.

    "The Alliance for Counselling and Psychotherapy has organised a demo at the New Savoy conference again this year.

    The New Savoy Conference is the annual gathering of professional and

    charity bodies providing psychological therapies (IAPT) in NHS primary

    care.
    IAPT is an assembly-line service providing short-term therapies to over

    a million people every year. Despite the commitment of its frontline

    therapists and psychologists, IAPT is failing the mental health needs of

    communities all over England, while working with government policies

    that themselves generate psychological distress and social alienation.

    Come and join therapists, mental health activists, psychologists and

    welfare campaigners."

    This is the link to the conference details:

    I read a scathing article on the bps model on the dpac site (see my thread;
    https://www.s4me.info/threads/government-and-insurance-companies-establishing-the-bps-model.2319/)

    But I am not sure about this protest. It's aims do not seem clear to me. Those who are demonstrating seem to be doing so to highlight the strain the therapists are under(?)

    If you read the conference details, it seems like a call for more intervention. EG for kids in school and the elderly (see my other thread ;
    https://www.s4me.info/threads/the-home-study-michael-sharpes-cbt-for-the-elderly.2499/)

    Although the whole IAPT set up needs to be exposed I am concerned that Wessely et al will use it to push for further integration of psychological treatments.

    (I need to read it all again).

    Having done this sausage machine generic CBT and also having experienced proper counselling from a professional there is no comparison. I believe counselling through trained professionals should be available to support people who have mental health issues. And as the DPAC are highlighting IAPT is tied up with benefits agenda it would seem there is common cause with ME folks ie being at risk of benefits sanctions for not recovering and being able to work following ineffective treatment

    Having seen the effect of the CBT sausage making machine on half a dozen adolescents i would definately concur.
    One size fits all actually fits noone well.

    I like this statement, "NO to work as a health outcome", because in my view it is inhumanistic that nowadays all that counts as a human being's value is his workforce. A human being is not a "human ressource".

    Doesn't sound too bad if I see those twitter messages. They didn't demand more mental health therapies it seems. Hm...? Puzzling.

    Would DPAC be a possible ally?

    Off-topic : I much preferred the no-longer-used name of "Personnel Department" rather than the modern "Human Resources Department". I always think the modern name makes people sound as important as a kettle or a chair.

    They did write this: https://morningstaronline.co.uk/node/42151

    Trying to reach out to potential allies like this seems a really useful things to do. I wish I'd sent them a 'thank you' e-mail now. Easy to forget about things like that.
