IMO I liked this article because it represents how the lack of good honest science created the tug of war consumers feel with “wellness brands” vs Big Pharma. Big Pharma has burned us with some questionable studies, and a general lack of trust was created with surging price increases. Wellness brands are gaining ground in establishing a place in our homes, even if many are not scientifically proven.

I was thinking our new site could, as one of our strategies, could debunk both big Pharma and wellness brands when appropriate. In this way we could use pure clean science as a way to educate and inform, with an unbiased judgement. I feel there is a strong need in the marketplace for an honest debate, especially when Big Pharma spends more money on marketing than R&D.

So our new site could have a niche market, in that we are open to understanding both the Big Pharma and “wellness brands” perspectives, but use pure science to debunk or affirm the credibility of each individual “product”. I realize some of us may not view being open minded to new ideas as a priority (per our poll), but I think that being open minded and unbiased is essential to debating/debunking.

I did not know that. How appalling!

I do not think all "wellness brands" should be dismissed out-of-hand, just because they do not charge enough to be able to afford research studies. I have found some to be very helpful.

ETA: Augh! I am going to have to make a bunch of posts to get myself off of moderation.

Edit Again: Well, it looks like the moderation is very fast!

Now that I have read the article, I want to say that I had never heard of Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop brand. It sounds pretty dubious. That doesn't mean we should throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Do we know if it's true?
    I am sceptical.

    I like your ideas, @MErmaid.

But I disagree that lack of faith in big pharma is the primary cause of this problem. Its part of human nature to seek cures, and if there aren't any from medical science, we go elsewhere. No amount of improving conventional medicine will ever change this.
