Getting harder and harder to weasle out of rejecting CBT and GET as an institution. I hope the relevant charities etc. keep the pressure on.

    van Gool:

It's like these guys are auditioning to be Bond villains. One thing's for sure: Chauvinism is alive and thriving in the world of medicine.

They backed the wrong horse and now they're doing everything in their power to prevent people from noticing the harm that's been caused.

Yes. As Coyne says: "Patients and their carers and advocates would do well to be vigilant for the next move from the Dutch Health Council."

Has van Gool ever apologised for this? Or commented on it in any way?

Oh no Tired Sam, are you still banned?

They didn't like my comment likening TOP presidential style to that of Trump, but just deleted my post, rather than me.

Following a citizens initiative the Dutch Parliament asked the Dutch Health Council https://www.gezondheidsraad.nl/en in 2015 to advise on ME. In March 2016 an advisory committee ME/CFS (ME/CFS was not the request!) was installed counting 10 members. 4 of them are explicitely MUS scientists. One of them is co-author of the editorial that hailed the PACE trial in the Lancet in 2011. http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(11)60172-4/abstract In June 2016 the president informed members of Parliament about the process until then. In that meeting he made remarks about the IOM report. It was needed according to the president to add quality to the report considering new (Dutch) research was soon to be published. When asked to explain what the IOM is, he misinformed the MP's. Why did he do that? At least it is hard to believe that he is not correctly informed about the IOM himself, because according to the Council's website they are linked to each other. A specific research group in The Netherlands is very influential on the subject of ME and CFS. They are working closely together with the PACE-athors and with Esther Crawley on FITNET. It is this group that claim ME and CFS are based on false ilness beliefs and CBT/GET leads to improvement or even recovery. Very soon now, the Health Council will present their findings. To put it carefully, we have our doubts about that advice.
When I met Prof Coyne some weeks ago during the screening of Unrest in Amsterdam, he asked who this person was discrediting the IOM/NAM. I informed him about this case.
